This just my listening about the iphone from "the enduser" from tonight at my local bar with my favorrite bartender that has no clue about technology :)

She Told me:.....She has 1 1/2 years left on her contract, but she wants to get it! I asked Why? And she said because it looks really cool!

No hate things here Please :) , but only pure discussion about:

why will People convert to the iPhone?

Breaking a contract with a cellphone company is nothing, its only like a $150 fine which is like going out to the bar for a night. I dont know about the iPhone but usually when you switch to a new company you get a discount on the phones so that makes up for the cost of breaking a contract anyway. If it was a $800 fine to break a contract then it would be a different story and a lot of people wouldnt want to ever switch companies until their contract ends.

Because of the TV commercials :imho:

They are doing massive advertising on this. Doesn't mean people will be happy with it, but I think they'll sell a lot of them.

Because .mobi sites look really great on it? j/k
I would think that for some $150 would pale in comparison to having to change phone numbers, or are cellphone #s transferrable between carriers these days?

I do think the Iphone has an appealing form factor, using it's realestate effectively with the larger screen, and being touch-screen is handy - though ma be prone to tech issues down the road. The wifi is nice touch, esp in US.

In the U.S. there is a law that they have to let you transfer your number to and from any carrier if you want to.

Now this may be an understatement! Stock will soar too.

I think people will buy it, no doubt. Will the stock soar? Apple is overpriced already IMO... But yes, I think we'll see it go up further, only to be followed up by a large crash at a later date (I'm guessing within 2 years).

Jobs really should have spent more time planning this one...

No stylus? That's right -- it's a touch screen, so touch that screen with your oily fingers, smudging it all up in the process.

No choice? Does everyone necessarily want (or even like, for that matter) to be restricted to a single (subpar) carrier? :talk:

At least here in Canada, you can expect to pay $100/month for unlimited internet and a decent talk package... Fun, fun! Yes, don't use the mobile internet, use the real one -- it eats up more bandwidth costing you more money

The screen is really beautiful -- but it's exposed... How long before you drop it and have a nice cracked iPhone? :o

No 3G? Thank you Mr. Jobs, you've just single handedly helped the .mobi cause more than I ever imagined you would. Everyone can now see how slow it is to load webpages on a non-3G phone :tu:

Why the heck is the screen 320x480? Even cheap pdas like the newest (pretty old actually) Dell Axim uses a 640x480 display. Twice the pixels; half the scrolling :gl:

And I can't replace my battery? What do I do when it dies? You mean I have to buy another phone? :$:

And battery life? How fun it must be to surf the real internet when you have no battery life.

Lastly, let's not forget that Apple has a 20 year history of botching first generation products. :lala:

iPhone for me? No thank you.

Are you sure? I was going to switch from T-Mobile to Cingular and they told me that I could not keep the same number. This was about 2 months ago.

Thanks Garrett :) I'm actually an Apple fan and have several of their products, including an iPod and an eMac, although I'm just not happy with what I've read (or heard) about this one. Apparently there are possible (unresolved) TM issues with the iPhone in Canada -- must explain why I haven't yet seen the ad yet.

I am positive. They have to let you. Just like that link says you have to switch your whole number including area code and you need to do it before you cancel the tmobile account. To do it you either need to order cingular through the phone anywhere in the country or you need to go to a cingular store in the same area code as your current phone number.

Yea, they have to let you transfer your number. They were probably being lazy POS and didn't want to do the paperwork.

I believe Congress enacted a new law which says you can transfer your number to any carrier.

I haven't been able to change carriers because anytime I change ANYTHING about my plan, they make me sign a new 2 year contract.

I moved and had to change my area code: had to sign a new 2 year contract.

I added an additional line: had to sign a new 2 year contract.

Bogus!

Is the HTC Touch scheduled to be released in the US? I've seen demos of that phone and it looks pretty nice.

The iPhone is not exactly revolutionary. Apple has AMAZING product packaging/industrial designers, other than that, the HP69xx series offers MORE features in a better form factor and costs the same. The Treo 700WX series is quite powerful as well and lastly i absolutely agree with Reece - Apple has always had problems with 1st generation releases.

The iPod looks great on TV and eventually behind the glass case, or maybe even in a bar at night, when someone shows off. Is it worth the investment? Nope, absolutely not, at least not at this time.
