iphone.com was just sold to apple for seven figures, that's what I am hearing in a short soundbyte just broadcast on CNBC. According to the reporting, the owner has had it since 1995 and "at the last minute" decided to sell this premium domain name to the mother of all end-users ( I think it was within the last couple days or even hours).

I came here expecting to see the news already posted, but didn't see anything so I started this thread.

Thoughts, or comments? I think it's a great domain name, and I see a bright future for the iphone product down the road, but it seems there is just too much hype around the product right now for me. Maybe if I had an iphone-related domain I wouldn't mind as much :)

Hmm, very interesting. By the way, the domain was last updated on June 29th, so the sale must've occured several days ago.

And as for the price...it was sold to Apple, so seven figures seems fair enough. ;)

would be interesting to see a graph (dollars vs. years) showing the offers the guy received over the years.

btw, this other site looks underdeveloped. :) http://iphones.com/

I'll defer to those with more experience, but intuitively I would think that if you develop that domain and pimp it out with information about iphones and get listed in the big G... you could make yourself some cash. I would think that over time apple will add features to the iphone and people will seek information about getting and using those features. Convergence in your hand babeeeeee! :yell:

This is a great idea, but I run a lot of sites now, so I have no time, so I would like to sell the domain... :talk:

Not a bad idea, right now is a great time to sell. The Iphone has to have the most hype of any gadget out there at the moment.

You got a hot potato on your hands!

Now back to the OP. I wonder what the actual sale price was?

I don't even have interest in the iPhone, and I found myself typing iPhone.com in the address bar a number of times. I wonder how much this guy made from PPC and stuff before he sold it. As for the sale itself, seven figures to Apple seems to be right on target. :imho:
