What does PLC stands for ?

PLC seems like a British-only (or European-only) company naming style (kinda like Inc. or LLC). Doesn't seem to fit with the US extension.

Poor extension and the above make me say reg fee.

EDIT: Looked it up, says PLC stands for Public Limited Company, with UK in parenthesis. I stand by my prior assessment for value.
