I have a few domains about Intercambio Cultural, a portuguese/spanish term that means Cultural/Student Exchange as well as Travel Abroad for many in those countries.

Some were registered recently at the same time and parked at 1Plus. All were registered in december '06 with the exception of INTERCAMBIOCULTURAL.COM.BR that was registered since 1999, never dropped, and was an active site until a couple of months ago. Them all (except INTERCAMBIOCULTURAL.COM.BR) also have similar content, same keywords, basically no backlinks, no interlinking between them either.

The interesting thing:
From all those domains, INTERCAMBIOCULTURAL.ORG shows in First Place (or second place at times) in Google for that term "INTERCAMBIO CULTURAL", with quotes as well as without quotes! First place, not just first page. And is parked at 1Plus!

The INTERCAMBIOCULTURAL.COM.BR that has over 15,000 backlinks shows in fifth/ninth place, what seems weird. However, the .COM.BR appears in first place on Google.com.br while the .ORG not even in the 50 first results.

The .CC and .TV appear in the first 50 results (INTERCAMBIO.TV is in my NamePros signature for weeks, the .ORG never), the others not even there in the first 50 results.

Some numbers:
OVT - INTERCAMBIO CULTURAL - 70,000 (world, not just US)
Google.com results for "INTERCAMBIO CULTURAL" - 990,000
Google.com results for INTERCAMBIO CULTURAL - 1,500,000

The question:
Does Google.com give preference to .ORG domains?

Thanks for your comments.

PS: These domains are Not for sale, this post is only to understand why it happens, if there is any explanation.

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.

I can't really give you an full out explanation now why your site ranks as it does but i can tell you that Google does not give any preference to extensions in overall.
You could get some advantage if you would optimize for a term related to a Geographical location and with a extension of that location you do may have a small edge.

But in general...no.

i m agree with damion,
actually google is not giving any priority to .org but if your have any domain .gov and .edu than google give preference to those domains.

but if u have your targeted keyword in your domain than it will be beneficial for u and if u target uk market and u have .co.uk domain than it will be help to get ranking in google.co.uk search.

That is not actually true, a .gov or .edu domain does not mean it automatically gains any priority from Google.
The reason you may think this is because you perhaps see good SERP's for certain keywords from these extensions but that is not extension related.

The reason why it happens that these extensions score well is there is unique quality content to be found on these websites with a .edu or .gov extension and as a result being linked to from a lot of websites.
So Google would conclude this is a website with authority on the subject because it has received so many backlinks thus votes.

The extension itself is not the reason why these domain extension score well in the results, it's the content and the amount of backlinks these pages have accumulated over time because of this quality content.

I tottaly agree.

But then comes the original question why my .ORG above is first place and the others are most not even in the first 50 results, specially when everything else is equal (with the exception of the .COM.BR)?

interesting... so you get to the top without doing anything except parking at 1plus, haha. pleasant surprise! any idea how much traffic you're getting from search engines?

I noticed that INTERCAMBIOCULTURAL.org holds a first place on the .com Google but not on the .nl Google

And the .com.br shows the domain with the .com.br extension at #4
I didn't had the time to dig further in the matter but for what i have seen i can only say - Interesting! and odd at the same time!

Congrats!
Thanks, but I think it is more luck than skill here!

Yes, it was a big surprise.
The first time I saw I thought "WHO is there in first place??!!" Hey, wait a second, that site belongs to ME!!!
No idea of traffic, I have no statistics like Google Analytics and 1Plus does not provide anything. But Adsense is counting!
And I am too scared to even Touch anything there...

I checked: the .ORG not even in the 100 first results. The .COM.BR is in fourth what is not unexpected since that term is not spoken in the Netherlands so should be similar to Google.COM. Many Spanish sites there in the .nl.

And once more I tottally agree with you: Interesting! and odd at the same time!

Will enjoy while I still can!

Glad you think its pure luck.... :)

Actually there are many many 1plus domains ranked very high for their corresponding keywords.

Unfortunately, most positive feedback comes to us via PM / email whereas most critiques are posted publically. I guess this is the way of things generally so we should nt complain.

If i were to offer you a small tip, you might wanna add your own custom news link column instead of using the default.. ;)

I was saying that on my side, because "I" did nothing special just like my other very same domains in this same subject and keywords that, as I said, are well down the 50th place.

The INTERCAMBIOCULTURAL.ORG is a brand new domain, a PR0 competing with PR5 high budget established web sites for years. My content is minimal as well.

I never saw that happening before. Just like most people here.

Sorry if I sounded I was complaining about 1Plus but I was not. All of us only have to gain by sharing our experiences.

Actually, perhaps you remember that I myself sent you some feedback and suggestions, via PM.

Yes, I also have other domains at 1Plus that are PR4 (some times PR5) as well others with Thousands of backlinks, which were created mostly by interlinking my 1Plus domains.

Yes, that is a good tweak and will certainly do that to my other domains at 1Plus.

However, for my INTERCAMBIOCULTURAL.ORG, I will leave it the way it is at least something happens in the meantime.

:hehe:

Still FIRST Place!!!

Still FIRST Place!!! And now among 1,600,000+ results!!!

Made some minor changes and still getting very first place on Google!

Initially, I thought that this domain was registered by the first time ever, by me. I was wrong.

I just found out that that domain was previously registered in 1999 by a multi-million dollar company that, by some reason, let the domain drop. But, by receiving over 100 uniques a day, of targeted traffic, without any current promotion, it is not bad at all.

This domain remained unregistered for 3 years, from 2003 to 2006, according to Archive.net

The point: Together with the age of the few backlinks done years ago, including from Yahoo Dir, Google appears to take into consideration the age of the web site from Archive.net or similar, not just from the Whois register date.

Interesting?

:)

Its because the keyword is not mentioned on the older domain (body text or title) ...well language is different. Compared to the new one.. its in the title and body text which makes it a bit more relevant in my opinon.

Try changing it and see what happens.

The Keyword in the Body text and Meta Tags that you see now are part of the improvements I made a couple of days ago.

Before I did not have them and was in first place the same way. I just wanted to make it more relevant since it is a park page and hopefully get better paying keywords.

:)
