Just noticed this today on some domains that were recently auctioned off at TDNAM. It would be interesting to know what the legal dispute is about. Did any NP member win these auctions and if so, were you told what is going on with the domain(s)?

Interesting. No idea what's going on here....unless the original owner is contesting that they were auctioned inappropriately.

I'm not bidding on these
I've just checked two and they are owned by the same person. I assume they all belong to the same person. Most likely he didn't like the Godaddy way of selling his names ;)

Yeah - I think they put them up for auction even before they have fully expired D-:

I thought they were putting them up for sale upon expiry and until before redemption. To put up a name on sale even though it still owned by a customer is not quite right.
Actually they would even have an incentive for not sending renewal reminders to registrants.
Well I would then have another reason for not liking godaddy

You are right and that is a serious conflict of interest. But if they wait until the name is beyond redemption then Verisign gets it don't they?

I know Dotster sends me a email every week listing everything that expires within the next two months.

The registrant can pay the $$$ to renew the name. In that case, the winning bidder of an expired domain auction will be refunded in full.

Kate, you hit on something very important.

A lawsuit may change GD's practices in this area. They have fiduciary duties to the registrant and have monetary interests that sometimes conflict with these duties. GD's defense is that they allow the person to redeem the domain, but there is an inference GD would prefer the registrant NOT renew the domain if the expired domain auction fetched a higher price.

Although I have yet to win a single .com with them, or see them pick up one for anyone else, the fact that they also offer drop catch services just adds a whole new level of conflicting interest to this already messy situation.

I track around 20 of what I consider the top domains each day just to see who got what, very interesting patterns appear over time. A very clear pattern is GD never wins a single .COM name worth a crap, don't bother.

I recognize the owner of them, because he purchased about 85 three letter .us from me just a few months ago (none of these were part of that transaction). I'm sure he didn't intend to let them expire or go to auction, as he has been actively buying LLL.us domains.

Agreed...this is a BIG time buyer and owner of LLL.us domains who presently owns those domains and I'm certain he didn't intend for them to drop.

He bought 200 LLL.us from me about 6 months ago, and as I understand it he owns well into the x,xxx number of LLL.us domains. He's a pretty serious player...at least judging by what he paid me to buy the ones I sold him...I just couldn't say no. I'm betting he'll be holding onto these disputed domains somehow.

This would definitely be nice to know, but I am sure that this is private information. Regardless, A price zesty can't turn down has got to be a good price ;)
