Was just looking through google news and came across the following article:-

Intel will deliver the company's first quad-core processors for high-performance PCs and servers Relevant Products/Services from Dell in November, getting the jump on rival AMD in providing the next generation of chips designed to deliver the power needed to handle high-definition video, cutting-edge games, and math-intensive number-crunching.

The initial quad-core chip will be designed for gamers and content creators and will be called the Core 2 Extreme Quad-Core. Intel Relevant Products/Services from Intel said the chip will boost machine performance by some 70 percent over the current Core 2 Extreme processor. That chip will be followed early next year by a mainstream processor called the Core 2 Quad.

I personally have only in the last few months upgraded to a dual core processor. Things are indeed moving faster than ever with computor hardware.

Yes it is amazing how fast it is increasing. I don't know if you are aware but there is a theory called Moore's law that basically states that pc speeds would double every 24 months (before looking at the provided url I thought it was 18 but that says 18 was a myth). It seems this law has basically been upheld.

I agree with you there, and it will keep to that standard, actually will even increase I think.

A PC bought today at top spec will be a dinosaur within 3 years at the current rate of progress.

And yes True Snake dual's been out for ages, I've had mine for at least 8 months now. :)

Well my computer needs an upgrade, but not anytime soon, broke as usual lol.

My 3Ghz P4 64bit SINGLE core CPU went out of date quick :(.

Good news for servers though, can't wait till they're cheap enough for most of us to afford :). It's really very amazing how quick computers are becoming.

Rhett.

My PC was pretty high spec when I bought it a few years back but it's out-dated now... I'm running:

P4 2.53 Ghz
512MB RAM (now upgraded to 1GB)
GeForce 4 MX440 (now upgraded to GeForce FX5200)

I just had to upgrade it to get a bit more performance. I'm saving up for a new computer now though... AMD Dual-Core 4800+ *drools*
