Hello,

Have you guys heard about this company?

GoName.com?

They have a website selling domain names, and have a huge collection of names.
Is it safe to deal with these guys?
They claim to own about 40,000 domains, and are based in Nashville, Tennessee.

Any info would be much appreciated.

Thanks @ sdsinc, I had already read the first thread, going through the second one now.

So in trust is very much the same company.

They recently beat me to a domain sale.

GoName.com has now moved to GoNameSales.com

I'd never heard of these people, but last week I discovered that GoName.com was listed as a Godaddy premium domain at an attractive price so I went ahead and bought it. Two days later a Godaddy rep contacted me to say that the previous owners had listed their own domain for sale "by mistake" ( yikes! ) and they were wondering if I'd be willing to sell it back to them. I quoted a price which I'm assuming was more than they wanted to spend because I never heard anymore about it -- they just rebranded and moved on.

Anyhow, I just wanted it on the record that the domain no longer belongs to this company.

I hope you didn't pay too much. Personally I would not purchase GoName.com because it now has a negative history. I hope you factored this into the price. Perhaps they let it go for a reason. It's not the first time they rebrand to another domain name.
I seem to remember that GoName.com was bought for 10K not so long ago, maybe 1 or 2 years ago. Maybe I'm wrong as I'm quoting from memory.

I'm happy with the price and confident that it was sold by mistake. They were clearly still fully committed to the brand ( emails, website, icann account, merchant cc account, etc., all in that name ) and my account manager told me they had called in and were eager to get it back. Also, Godaddy was the only place the domain was listed for sale and the price was really low. If you're bulk listing domains, it's easy to check the box next to the wrong name so I can see how it could easily have happened in error.

Well, they bought it back from me after all so I'm no longer responsible for anything done with that domain.

Cool. Congrats.

Hope you made something good on that. At least someone could profit from them.

I hope you made a tidy profit on it.

I can't help but think there must be at least one guy no longer on their company payroll.

Except, this type of thing does seem to happen more often than we'd like to believe possible.

Yes I made a profit. It was not the most pleasant transaction I've ever had so I'm glad it's over.

I can imagine, with those cowboys. I sold a domain once to a very prominent online domain broker. They are actively using it today. The abuse was awful. Almost resulted in a non-sale, but like most domainers I needed the money :(

what sort of abuse? Should'nt that just raised you sale price.?

eMails including a lot of foul language. Threats to pull out of the deal if I didn't respond immediately. It should have raised my sale price, I agree. But I needed the funds urgently, at the time, for some renewal fees. So I caved.
