I saw that the creator of $39 emperiment got a free lip balm from Carmex by sending a letter to the company. Pic of his free lip balm

My lips have been very chapped lately and I need a new lip balm, but didn't want to send a letter. So I decided to send an email to Carmex on their site carma-labs.com. Here is my email that I sent on 1/22/07:

Dear Carmex Labs,
I am currently using Blistex Lip Medex. They are pretty good and I have no problem with them. My lips have been very chapped lately, and I've noticed that I am almost out of Blistex Lip Medex. I've heard great things about Carmex Lip Balm, but have never tried them myself. Maybe I will switch from Blistex to Carmex. Do you think you can send me a free sample so I can try it out? Thanks.

Well, the creator of $39 emperiment got a free lip balm from them, right? So maybe I'd get one too... Well I got a package today, four days after I sent the email, and this is what I got.

Companies LOVE to send out free stuff.. good advertising and good for business in general.

My brother used to get lots of free GPS units because of his geocaching website.

Rule #1: it never hurts to ask. All they can say is "no".

aah you have a GMC ..why dont you write a letter to Chevy telling them you have a GMC but want a chevy keychain they will happily send u one :p

haha, i still intend to do this with all the car companies

luckily, BMW/Mercedes are near me (at least they are in NJ).

I gathered all the addresses, too lazy to write the letter though.

I just emailed them and got a personal response from the owner. It was cool because he talked about the history and why they moved to Franklin. They are sending me some samples tomorrow.
