The NP index and search function is now horrendous.

I actually search via Google "searchterm" +namepros and get BETTER results!

You need to fix this. This IS A REASON why you will see lower quality of posts and less participation imho. You can't search for previous answers/threads because the search doesn't find them!

This is FUNDAMENTAL to a forum. Whats the point of pointing out you have 4,000,000 threads if none are indexed? Come join our forum - its like finding needles in a haystack... or more likely, finding a particular piece of hay in haystack.


For example search for
midgetporn.tv

Then on Google
+midgetporn.tv +namepros

That's ridiculous. 3 months old and not indexed. Same for any domain mentioned on that thread.

This is ABSOLUTELY having a NEGATIVE effect on this forum.

It is not that simple. Re-indexing those 4 million posts will take a lot of server power - it could bring the server down for several hours. It is ultimately RJ's decision on this, but I have looked into ways to regenerate the index and to do it quickly. Hopefully it can be done soon.

I just wanted someone to acknowledge the issue as important (I know some of the index was lost on migration). Right now? The search is a real waste of time - you may as well replace the page with something that says to use Bing/Google which indexes the pages too.


Makes what search engines accomplish seem all the more impressive!

I would have thought vBulletin would have command line that you could execute and throttle to perform a long long background task.

I don't know - I'm speculating I'll take your word for it! It's definitely needed though. I do think it impacts post quality.

General Performance has improved though so that's a positive. Appreciate the feedback and good luck finding a solution.
