Increasing Traffic by Linking to Popular Sites!?

Today I was trying to figure out where a certain high traffic site gets the traffic from. So, I did a link popularity test to see which sites linked to it. I went through the first couple sites that came up (which aren't that great), and then I began to wonder: why am I looking at these sites, and how many people did the same thing that I just did?

So, could it be possible that if you link to a high traffic site many people will do link popularity on that site and end up at your site!?

I read somewhere that google likes it if you are linked to a high ranking site - not sure how true it is.

Type the name into www.urltrends.com and it will tell you how many incoming and outgoing links it has. (sorry if you know this already !!) :hehe:

gazzip, Google likes it if a high-ranking site places a link to YOUR site. And this makes sense. But what I'm saying is, if you place a link TO the high ranking site, you might get traffic from people running the link popularity test on that site (because your site might be displayed in the search engine results after they do link:www.domainname.com in google or something, and then people will be curious to see what your site looks like).

if popular site is link to your site, your site will recevied high traffic..
think that some of the sites join programs like adwords in order to again high traffic...that means they pay for advertising...thats a good way.. provided if you got the funds,.

But the best way is try to put attractive comments and a forum to improve popularity.
