Hi,
I currently have around 1600 people registered for a newsletter, but only 400-500 read their newsletter,
which would be the best way to remove the in-active subscribers?

Could i add script in the email e.g. linking to an image or something so that I get a list of all the people who read the newsletter, then i can delete all the remaining subscribers who haven't read the newsletter

Any advice would be great

No, You should't do this. Some may not read at one time and may read at another time. May be the topics you covered may not cover their requirements. Try to find out what is their interest and try to cover. In this way, you can make the people to read.

Deleting the in-active people is not good thing. Look. how long and hard it takes to get the that much of subscribrs? simple r u ready to loose all the people? is it wise?

That's one thing I felt, but one problem I have is that some of subscribers newsletters bounce back as initally when i began the newsletter I didn't have a system to validate their emails, but now I do.

I wouldn't want to lose those people as it has taken 1 year to build them up.

I wanted a system which sent out emails based on a rss, if certain selected user keywords were there so that it would be user specific but I can't find such a program.
