I can't understand why everyone here who supports .mobi tells those who don't support it, or don't support it as wholeheartedly as they do, to go voice their opinions somewhere else.

Mobi doesn't need a cheer section. As investors trying to make informed decisions, doesn't it help to hear more than one side of the story? Admittedly, some people seem to like arguing just for the sake of arguing, but others make perfectly valid points about the risks associated with the extension. Why would we want to chase those viewpoints away? To me, they are just as valuable -- if not more valuable -- as those viewpoints that agree with what I already think.

Lets allow these people to have their say. There are two sides to every story, and it would be a damn shame if we chased one side away.

I agree with you. A healthy criticism is always better, it helps us to improve overself and allow us to look at the world without our "rosy" glasses. :gl:

Nice post Dan. I agree, as long as folks keep things from getting too personal, I think it's healthy and productive to have continued debates and disagreements.

And I suppose it's part of the same 'cycle'... almost a right of passage... everybody that supports an alternate extension (to .com) will go thru it. I went thru it with .US and it just made me work harder!

It will make you a tougher, smarter, better domainer. If you survive it. :p

Your thread title and your post tell 2 different stories. The title I disagree with but the post is good. Haters come to pee in your eye and offer nothing more than ridicule and contempt. As far as I am concerned, reasonable debate is very much welcomed.

It's a thin line between 'hating' and 'healthy debate'. Unless someone is off-topic or purposely destructive to the discussion -- why kick them out?

Spot on!

Argument is a sign of health in all social systems - be they countries, churches, movements, or parties - to name just some obvious examples.

I've suggested in the past that we have a new sticky (or an additional section in an an existing one), which can serve one or more of the following purposes:

1. (easy) Make it clear to .mobi sceptics, haters, pessimists and all other shades of non-enthusiastic opinon - moderate or otherwise - that they are always welcome here.

2. (very involved but doable) Help both anti- and pro- .mobi posters understand which arguments have already been covered at great length, present a summary of the key points thereof, and help new faces understand why only original new contributions to these particular areas would be truly appreciated.

3. (possibly too ambitious) Present a regularly updated draft statement on what most people on both sides of the argument actually agree on - at least in broad terms.

All this of course assumes that the purpose of this forum is to generate light and not just heat. Some may call me naive, but I actually believe that to be the case. :)

I have no power to kick anyone out, so I guess the tool I use is to ignore people who resort to calling mobi enthusiasts zealots, cultists, or one of my favorites, Manson family domainers.

I think Whitebarks thread "The mobile web leaps ahead without .mobi" is a good example of reasonable debate. No hatred, just differing views.

There is nothing at all wrong with debate, and it should be encouraged. But to me the problem becomes when 'any thread' is inudated with the critiqueing, knocking, slamming and outright intentional challenging and criticizing. I mean really, does/should any thread post have to be slammed with points that have been discussed before, and have nothing to do with the subject at hand?? It's always the same ones, with the same rants. $20 will get you $30, that if every .tv, .us, .info, etc. thread was attacked as consistantly and viciously, there would be a quick end put to it. I think that because this is the 'new boy' extension, some feel it's open/ok for open ridicule, ..hidden as 'debating the other side'.

It is difficult to discern emotion in text. We interpret the feeling based on the construct of the phrase. So, based on your background and grammer skills, what you write in a post may not come across the way it was intended. This is an inherent problem with forums. They are meant for you to voice you opinion but they limit you to how well you can write. Healthy criticism is always good; it keeps you from floating away (cloud nine).

Thank goodness for smilies :tu:

Absolutely LOL ....

Discussion and debate are good. Hopefully we all learn from it.
But seeing months of "inciteful and thought provoking" replies such as "$0", "-Reg Fee", "worthless" by thread prowlers to just about every mobi appraisal request in several forums gets old quick.

Bad non-keyword names in any extension are a long shot. It just seems that the mobi ones draw more criticism.

I like the .tv forum rules:

"You don't like .tv? great keep your posts in General Discussion this is a subforum for people who do like .tv hating or bashing posts will be deleted"

Actually, I very much DISLIKE this post, IMHO ... and, not coincidentally, as Emeritus™, was rather vocal about having it removed here from the .MOBI Forum! :gl:

Namepros™, in my view, is not in the business of summarily deleting posts and opinions - even if they vary greatly and at times become heated! :talk:
However, personal attacks, name calling, vulgarity, threats, and obviously inciteful posts / threads should, and most likely, will be removed ... in staying in theme with an OP's subject matter. :gl:

Just wanted to post here quickly for clarification, as I've seen reference to that former "forum rule" post in the past, as well. Remember, it's the general discussion .MOBI Forum ... not the private, exclusive .MOBI Likers Only™ Club / Forum.
Thanks for understanding, friends.
