People have complained how expensive .im names are. Those two may have become the most expensive to register (hence, good you were "in a pickle" when you thought of it :imho: ). I'm not sure of Canadian law, but under US cyber-squatting laws, those would have cost you up to $100,000 each :lol: You can play alot of folks. Microsoft doesn't play nice when it comes to proteting itself. They play hardball

IM users? Are they your end-users?

You might be suprised how many professionals (inclusing folks like us) and businesses themslves use IM systems What gets me baffled is how many are regging these names with terms that have little to do with Instant Messaging, considering few other uses (outside maybe a few "hacks") would sit well with this extension

It looks like they can take the name back, at anytime they feel like. This is total bull crap. I am not very happy with The Isle of Man right now. :td:

sounds to me like they didn't think out a list of names they wanted to reserve ahead of time. Looks like someone gets a list of names from the previous couple days and says "hey, I think we should reserve that one", and then revokes it.
Not very good planning, and a bad way to make a first impression of their nation.

Thank you for your email below. I am afraid that we do not in any way
control or set the policy for approval or withdrawal of .im domains which
rests with the Isle of Man Government and under the registry terms and
conditions they retain the power to withdraw any domain. Unfortunately this
does leave the process open to some level of subjectivity.

That said this does seem to be an unusual case and I recommend that you take
a few moments to submit a dispute email in response stating that you cannot
understand how attorney.im could be considered an abusive registration as
defined under the .im DRP or deemed to be profane or otherwise undesirable in
accordance with the rules. Withdrawal of this domain may also be seem to go
against general rule 3.2.

I just got the same letter for Isleofman.im !! They seem like a bunch of numpties that say one thing and do another !

Strange way to do business - I will chase this one up and see what they say about it.

co.im is taken by the .IM registry. That would be a dang fine typo to have for all the .co.in sites out there. Wish I could get it!

I've managed to reg .im's at less than £40 (through a friend that is a nic.im reseller). Am trying to arrrange with them to offer discounts and good prices for NP members which should be done by next week.

In the meantime, if you want me to help you get a cheaper .IM domain, i can reg it and then push the name to your own account @ £30 each (US$54). (Nb. there will be better bulk discounts once i iron out all the terms with them).
