I installed IIS 5 on my xp pro machine. Everything worked great for a while. Then couple of months later something went wrong. The server is not working. I tried restarting it nothing. I look in the services part. It's there and running on automatic. But when I type http://localhost , nothing error page. I went to the IIS setting (manager) and under the Internet Information Services i do see my Desktop (local machine) listed. But before there was a tree structure that broke down into ,"web: and SMTP. But right now there is nothing under there. Weird! I ried reinstalling it but nothing. Only thing I did before it started acting crazy was get a cable modem installed and did the windows updates. Can someone please help!

I don't know anything about IIS, but one thing that may be a possibility is the default address has been changed to use another ip besides localhost.

I found this http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;220173 which sounds similar to your problem, but I'm not sure if it will help you out or not.

I looked at the MS support site that you pointed to. The problem is that I don't even have the default web site folder or any of the other things below it to rght click on.

I don't know, have you checked to make sure the files didn't get set as hidden files? I've had that happen to me before so I thought the files weren't there, but they were actually just hidden?

I've never used IIS, but I think if you switched to apache all your problems would be solved .... lol jk .... :)

Well, I think you'd probably be better of with IIS if you need asp support on your local machine. You could do it with apache and chilisoft asp which I think is now called sun one asp, but not on windows as far as I know. The url for sun one active server pages is http://wwws.sun.com/software/chilisoft/index.html if you want to check it out.
