Hmm i have for decided to keep them for many years. After 10-15 years, may easily get an $xxxx for them. These will be part of my 2016-17 portfolio. I hope that i am not in wrong direction...

I mean this as a completely friendly opinion, and not trying to tell you what will happen, just that no-one knows what will happen. I'm not saying don't invest in gTLDs, or anything, just make sure you know clearly with an open mind what you are investing in...

Look at the word you yourself used - "may" = might = might not = who knows (= gamble).

What is the yearly renewal costs? Everywhere seems to be promoting them, but that might not last more than a few months or a year. Everywhere seems to show "was $30/$40". So let's say $20, which is generous:

$20 x 4 names = $80 per year.

10 years = $800, so you'd need at least $200 each for them just to break even. That's $200 each and no profit.

For every year you keep them you need to sell them for a $80 + any previous years accumulated costs to break even.

Your time also comes into it, and you have to renew them, manage them in your portfolios/management software, deal with offers (if any) and send out offers. etc etc. Time you could be spending flipping .com each month for profit, rather than sitting on names.

Sure long term investments are great if done correctly, but I disagree when there are absolutely no assurances that you might even sell them for $xx or at all. There are no past sales or market trends that show potential, like .com with decent keyword that would at least likely get your money back without too much trouble.

I am not a gTLD hater, I'm just realistic, and the previous paragraph clearly defines a "gamble".
Yes, it's a lower cost gamble than casino or poker etc where you bet a large sum up front, but the outcome may end up being the same - even if you pay your losses out on a yearly basis :)

This is why they are a risk investment, because there are no stats to form a solid business strategy or wise investment approach, and "hope" that they don't fall flat on their face like .biz, .mobi, .info, etc etc. Also carefully consider that there are thousands of new TLDs, and I doubt they will all suddenly become 4 figure values, so why .online over any others?

Consider if in even 5 years they have not even sold. That's $400 loss.
Even if you sold them in 5 years for $xx each, it's still a whopping loss.

However, of course, it could come that these 3L.online sell for decent 3 or even 4 figures in a few years time. You make a great profit. And that is your choice to make, just make sure you know the potential alternative :)

I sincerely hope you are right, but do understand it is a lot to gamble on. Perhaps set a reasonable target of 1-2 years, and monitor .online sales each month to see any changes etc. IMO if in 6 months there are still only a few sales, you have to consider seriously if it's worth the risk.

Sure, it could take 3 years and suddenly boom a 4 figure sum per name, but how much could you have made with .com names in that time much more likely to sell and bring a profit, and flipping for profit and investing more each time?

Food for thought.

All the best :)

I plan to keep them more than other names.I am sure for that. You are right ''maybe'' is gambling, but who knows in this industry? For a 4/5 years investment these shorts maybe worth a try. Again, i agree it depends to .online next sales, i ll keep an eye on them.

I think whether with domains iia/oeo/tik/lel .online one is on good or wrong direction very much depends on whether analysis was made as of how many companies/organisations/etc can use (lets say IIA) as shortcut for their name. For example, non profit org is named International Institute of Archeology, and iia.com, net, org is not available anymore. So if they use now something like InternationalInstituteofArcheology.org, they might want to use IIA.online, as alternative to iia.com, iia.net, etc. This is exactly also the main purpose why new gTLDs were introduced. Such analysis can be made by google search, or you can do it via estibot lead tool (which is paid), or you can also see using zfbot.com domains, which has string "iia" in their domain name (here) . This can bring some useful ideas about who are possible end users, how many companies or organisations you can contact, etc. The more good paying end users, the better value of the domain. Without proper research, nobody can responsibly say that iia.online is worth this and that. If that would be .com, appraisal would be much easier, as one would compare it with previous sales, but here we do not have this option yet, as .ONLINE is in GA only from 08/2015, so only 1 year.

From those 4 domains, I like most domain iia.com, as it can be shortcut for lot of nice words (international, internet, institute, association, etc). I can not really think of lot of uses for oeo :)

IMO .ONLINE will be one of the most successful new gTLDS, but as previously mentioned, this is something which will be more known to end users (general public) in few years (I would agree with estimate of 4-5 years).
