If you can't have the .com....

So many of the .com's are gone, that often when you find a desirable domain, the only TLD's left are .biz, .name, .us, .info, etc...

Soooo.....what do you prefer if the .com, .net, and .org are gone? And why?

This has been something that has baffled me when looking at domains to purchase. It would be nice to say "Okay, the .TLD is available and that's better than the others because..."

Depends what your going to do with the domain, if your just looking to develope a "general" website that is commercial in nature I would vote for a .net, .net used to mean "network" but today I think people assume it means "net" as in "interNET".

If your site is a store or sells goods online then I would likely recommend .biz for "business".

If your site is an information site, then .info "infromation" is the way to go.

Or if your site is strictly targeted towards a geographical audience then .us or .eu etc is the way to go.

As for .name?? never did like that extension and can't think of a use other than a celebrity site or something?

After .com - for me it's always .ca. No second thoughts considered. A .ca ranks as well as .com in any N.A. search engine, and with so many people around the globe using yahoo.com or google.com instead of their specific country locale that suits me fine.

After .ca would be .info because of it's world wide reach. But with that said it depends on the domain in question. Some domains don't work well as .info, and the same can be said of .net and .org, but you don't have that problem with .com, .ca, .de etc etc.

Bottom of the list - .mobi unless it is VERY specific to mobile content.
