Lately on television I have seen ads from Pandora. Actually two companies using Pandora as their brand. Both companies are well known of course. Pandora.com registered in 1993. An American subscription-based music streaming service owned by Sirius XM Holdings. Pandora.net registered in 1997, founded in 1982 the company is a Danish jewellery manufacturer and retailer. […]

It depends.

If another extension makes sense for that company, go for it. I doubt people will give up on a name just because the exact match .com is taken. Especially if they own the one-word social media handle(s) which can also be very valuable.

If this would have been the case then there was no real need for so many extensions. I think the left of the dot has a little edge over the right of the dot.

I think I agree but it's interesting, because if I was set on naming my company Pandora and there was also a huge company on the .com I don't know if that's smart.

In the blockchain space many startups are using a variety of new extensions to avoid the aftermarket (most users are no reason to spend more than $50 on a domain despite the many other operating costs which run many thousands of dollars). Time will tell how their domain choice affects their branding long-term. Check Defipulse.com to see a list of DEFI platforms and note the extensions being used. Celsius Network (technically not DEFI but a large player in the space) operates on a .Network while the Digifox wallet uses a .finance domain when the .Com is available at a premium.

Good evening.

I guess it depends on the geographical locations too. The American streaming service may not be known by many outside of America whereas many European countries (and their very large economies) would be within the scope of the jewelry/jewellery business. I wonder how their balance sheet looks after trading on the lesser known .net extension. I'd say they were doing ok.
