Is there a way to see if someone has lifted (read: stolen) a template and/or site design?? I know there's some site out there that'll tell ya if someone has your same text (which one was that??) but I'm wondering if there's something that can find similar template/site/design.

Thanks!!

One trick I've used is to name some of the graphics on the template something unique. Instead of leftcorner.gif, name it lcorner77h.gif or something like that. Most template theives are too lazy to rename the files (if they even think of that) so it makes it easy to google your images to see who's using them.

i hate rippers too. i would be mad to see any of my designs on other sites without me knowing about it.

I reccomend that you make your sourcecode impossible to edit.

Use a source code encryptor ( I make one, but I am not promoting it.)

You could also use hotlink protection, to force anybody to save each image in your template by hand, which should put off most would-be rippers:

im making a program in VB that hides text in an image and if you find a site that someone has ripped and they say they bought it or somthing then just download the image u hid the text in and if it matched u kno they did it :P.

Encryption is the best way. There are some free editors out there and some free online services. Unique names are a good way too..

Yes but then no indexing will be made by search engines :/

You can encrypt part of the code..Leave the header info as normal html. That way you keep your keywords and descripton..

Yes ,but more often now,Google and Other major search engines use the body content, Pagenames and not the Meta tags for Indexing

Plus encryption only works for some users , so you are limiting the access to your site. The best method is to do like Gene said ,use Unique names and also embed small discrete water marks in graphics. You don't need special software packages to do this just use a small font and a colour only slightly changed from the background.
