If a domain name expired on April 20th...

When will this domain be available for someone else to register it?

I always thought it was 1 month, after expiration. But it looks like some domains stay longer in hold, before they are deleted, and someone else can register it.

Any ideas?

That's an excellent article. Be nice to get an update though...a lot can change in 5 years.

I suppose you need to keep that checking starting from today to not lose that domain name at all.

Depends on the extension...
Assuming it's .com, the clock starts ticking when the registrar lets the name into redemption. Then it's 30 days redemption period + 5 days pending delete then drop.

they're usually the same, take longer just in case the owner wants to keep it.
