The new IE browser, IE7, is expected to only be available on XP systems.

What a dumb move by microsoft....

This is only gonna help Firefox grow

Article: http://it.slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=05/07/23/0244218&from=rss

hardly a dumb move.

2000 is now obsolete they are no longer releaseing updates or patches for it, so why release new software?

by releasing software on xp only platforms they are forcing users to upgrade

the same pattern happend with 98, people stoppped supporting it games and software so people are forced to upgrade to latest software.

Adam beat me to it...

I was going to say, that in the long term, it will benifit Microsoft substancially IMO :)

lets not forget, firefox doesn't even compare to microsoft's internet explorer even a little bit in users!

Most java scripts are still written for internet explorer users by default!!!

So this move will not exactly make microsoft lose customers, i am sure they care little if they do lose say another million or so to firefox!

I used all browsers (opera, internet explorer, netscape navigator, firefox etc.), still by far the most robust one and most reliable one of all is internet explorer.

What's this "Internet Explorer" you talk of? :-/

:notme:

Firefox ALL THE WAY! :yell:

I really don't use IE anymore, but I still have XP so, not a problem. I think it's a move to maybe let people know that 98/2000/ME are OLD!

I luv my Win2k - damn MS for discontinuing the OS! I will not move to XP - not anytime soon atleast. I don't care about that buggy browser anyways. Can you imagine how many bugs the first release will have? I don't even want to think about it!

FF or Opera are the way to go!

its hard for you firefox and linux guys to really appriciate the work and hardcore coding gone into windows series, Just remmeber, firefox is a SINGLE program, windows has so much functions, one of them being IE, so in feature terms they may not compare but in reliability terms i think IE is still dominant. For me opera is right at the bottom now :( half the java sites dont work with it (even if you have the java patch!) or it crashes half way :(

I actually agree with you..as I'm writing this I am using Opera. However - it keeps crashing on me constantly, for no apperant reason, without me even touching the computer. So I'm really thinking about going over to FF (which I've got installed as well) - it's just going to be a mess to transfer all the bookmarks from Opera to FF :(
