When using ie6 I get a new php session id every refresh. What is that all about? I have tried setting the privacy settings to low/off, tried adding a compact privacy statement or P3P.

I just tried logging in to some sites with ie6 here is what I got.

google: gave me an error message saying my cookies are turned off. They are on though.

digg: didn't even load in ie6.

namepros: worked.

Can anybody else get it working or do I have a strange version of ie6?

EDIT*
Just figured out that ie6 is blocking all cookies from every site that I visit even with privacy settings set to "allow all cookies". I have also noticed that namepros was storing the session id as a GET string which is why it is the only one working.

Are you using a proxy by any chance (knowingly or unknowingly)?

Meh, just use firefox :)

But yea, alot of proxies (privoxy especially) can munch cookies in its default config.

lol. You a lucky person.

To everyone else:
I'm not using IE6 to browse. I am developing an app and I am seeing the problems on a standalone edition of IE6 while testing. However I have come to the conclusion that there is something wrong with the standalone version blocking all cookies (possibly because it is unable to save them somewhere?) as the stats in my app show people logging into it with IE6.

I hate having to develop to support different browsers. I have just spent many a hour creating a navigation with drop down sub menus. Unsurprisingly most the problems faced were with IE6 (I have not even dared to try IE5 yet). At least IE7 is a step in the right direction.
