VacatoinRental.com (misspelled) would have been tested for traffic long ago. And just the fact that you could reg it means it failed.

Recent new domainers dont have a clue how thoroughly typos were tested.

understood. but what about the fact that Homeaway owns Vacatoinrentals.com they dropped Vacatoinrental.com but not vacatoinrentals.com?

Please check the jpg attached. Can someone give me a mini tutorial? so when you put vacatoin rental into google it shows 51 million plus results for vacation rental. then says search instead for vacatoin rental. which shows about 1500 results..

Just on the numbers for vacatoin rental I know I'm screwed but is there any way to manipulate this so that if I did develop this domain into a site that VacatoinRental.com could show up for search results for keywords Vacation Rental?

For all the metrics data concerned could doing some SEO or whatever place this domain in the search results for Vacation Rental instead of Vacatoin Rental? I'm thinking someone will say METATAGS yes? I know but what else?

I know this is all besides the point but just curious to know and learn.

by the way thanks to everyone for their advice.I'm taking it all in. nobody wants to swallow that they are SOL on a domain. lol

Thanks i'll consider it. hey I have it for a year. I might as well recoup my investment over the year by creating a wordpress blog with some autogenerated content via rss feeds. videos and articles and photos then slap on some adsense and other advertising on it.

but how much trouble am I in? I mean I've checked other versions of vacationrentals.com and some big time offshore investors seem to own ever permutation of these 2 keywords even plural versions which are even grammatically not sounding great. like vacationsrental.com or rentalsvacation.com.

from a newbie to an obvious pro. Can you explain why these companies have invested time and money some registered since 2003. and just sitting on domains like this . some don't even have parking pages with revenue generators.

are all these industry top dogs all idiots?

yeah that's what I thought too. and even thinking that. I STILL registered it just because it gave me a gut feeling.

all I saw was all those ZEROS for the historical sale price for vacationrentals.com and it made me dizzy! lol I figured VacatoinRental.com I could at least get an enduser buyer to give me just 1% of those millions! wishful thinking?

if a person or company held a name since 2003, which was 13 years ago, even at $10 per year renewal fee, that would only add up to $130

additionally, that expense, could be expensed, by that person or company.

hate to be stubborn but I think it's a good domain. has some obvious flaws but with some development I can turn it into an income generator via wordpress blog with rss content and strategic affiliate programs.

you have to look at the time period which is was purchased

that domain more than likely had huge "overture numbers w/extension" so it earned revenue from ppc or could be a lead provider to a mortgage company.

as is, "mortage" has 14,000 exact match results in gkwt with a CPC of $7.76

coincidentally, i had registered "mortfage.com" and sold it years ago for $$$

imo....

keep the opinions coming. I'm learning here. Thanks to everyone. bottomline I paid the reg fee. I'm stuck with it for the year. might as well make the most of it. I'm more afraid of vacationrentals coming knocking on my door just for owning it.

really? so you DO invest in misspellings? that's enlightening. so you DO believe or DID believe in the value of misspelled domains? In this business I'm slowly realizing that ideas and beliefs change. Proof of that is evident with the whole Chinese Premium boom where crap 4-5 letter domains that western domains believe were worthless which was a COMMON believe suddenly turned upside down literally overnight. These weren't newbie domainers either who were left confused as to what was going on. all of a sudden here comes the chinese buying up all Chips 1,2,3,4,5 letter and number domains .com. meanwhile alot of so called guru's had to scramble to all the people they called fools for buying such domains in the past and sitting on it. They started suckering those domainers into selling their "foolish" domains for nickels then turn around and sold it to the chinese for big bucks.

domaining as it seems is as predicatable as the wind. name one scientist who can predict when the wind will blow at exactly the right time and where and at what strength? lol

misspellings of value are called , "typos".

typos, are the incorrect spelling of a term/phrase that a user types in the address bar.

misspellings that are not typos, have no value.

no no I do want an appraisal. and I got it. but I've always been technically Stuck with the domain. I'm just trying to keep positive even knowing I screwd up. Is that a crime? now if me trying to be positive means I have to go against what your experience is telling me.
