As an SEO I feel I must make people aware that this method of increasing your traffic is not a good idea.
Yes you may get more clicks, but is the audience thats viewing your banners relevant to what your doing? more so this will not help your ranking in google or other search engines.

Backlinking is designed in such a way that you get links back to your site from other sites that share a similar topic to yours else google does not consider it a valid backlink.

if it doesnt help your page rank, but doesnt hurt it either then i guess its still worth it to get some extra visitors
