I want to be number 1

My question is, what can i do myself to place high on the search engine results. (prefered keywords graphic design, logos, graphics, something around that route) My business is graphic design, there are thousands of sites that come up before mine. What do i need to do, i would be happy with just being on the first page, or the second or even third.

When someone googles Graphic design, i want them to see my site. What Sdo i do???

You can either show up in the organic search results or in the sponsored links. "Graphic Design" is *very* completive for organic search:

exact organic 56,900,000
exact url 415,000

... that usually means that you've got to find a more specific niches to rank for: geographic, style, influences, etc...

Having "graphic design" in the URL helps a little.

If your going to try PPC (e.g. Adwords), then I imagine that's going to be competitive too (expensive)...

If that was so easy everybody will be in the first page. You need to do a lot of marketing and optimization in order to be in the first page and in such competitive words like graphic design

You've got to figure out which keywords you want to rank for. "Graphic design" + many others..., then incorporate that into the site structure and text.

Are you sure that you will get plenty of visitors of google? If yes you have to goal on this, because that trafic is very relavant. My poor experience says me that it is not very high as you are expecting.

They will be hard words to become #1 on google for, but anything is possible.

1. I would start submitting your website to directories using the words graphic design, logos and graphics as your link titles.

2. You can also submit your website articles to social bookmarking sites. Use good keywords as your link titles!!!

3. Make a couple free blogs using blogspot and write some design articles and link all the good keywords to your website.

4. Change your signature link keyword to Graphic Design.

The best way to get lots of work being a graphic designer is to join a couple webmaster sites and participate in design contest. If your good, the customers will come.

I would also not sell logos for $15.00, this is why I quit design. A real logo should cost $100-$10,000. Your just bringing down the market and value for design work.

Your description tag: Affordable Graphic Design Services.
should start with "graphic design" and be a little longer. Make a description of about 20 to 30 words and include the most important targeted keywords in it.

Your keyword tag: logo, affordable, design, graphics, business cards, brochures, fliers, website
Start with "Graphic design," then ad targeted keyword phrases and not simple words. Make it about 6 to 10 Keyword phrases. Don't exagerate.

Rename your css File to i.e. graphic_design.css

Rename your logo to graphicdesign.png

Try to start your page with a h1 tag i.e. "Graphic design" followed by an h2 tag with "by Skilled Graphics". The best would be to enter this instead of the graphic text next to your Logo.

Ad content to your starting page and make the main keywords or keyword phrases bold or strong, alternatively use "em" and define "em" in your css file to have controll about how you want it to look.

Create more subpages.

Set the relevant tags of your sub pages with "graphic design" + keys relevant to the subpage itself.

Change or ad content to your site on a daily basis. Your site then becomes interesting for the crawlers.

Create backlinks slowly at constant intervals.

Well, that was just the basics and is applicable for nearly any site you want to push seriously.

the blogs must be related to graphics!
get the term, graphics design as the anchor text in the blog post, and it should link your site's home page!

Great advice, i have done or i am in the process of doing most of your suggestions, as for my logo price, if it were not so low i would not have any clients, there are too many folks giving away logos these days. Trust me i felt the very same way you do, and i bitc*ed and moaned, and finally decided if you cant beat them join them. I love doing graphic design, and its secondary income, so how much i make from it, really isnt important to me. Im just happy knowing someone is willing to use something i created.

There is no quick way to be move up the search ranks with a popular keyword. Time is pretty much your only ally (of course SEO) because the sites who are number one are there for a reason.

Case in point. I run a fantasy football / NFL picks site and blog. Since the market is so saturated with "Fantasy Football" I decided to take another avenue with keywords. I picked up on a couple of keywords that were getting me hits and ran with that.

It just takes time, traffic, and backlinks. (Just from my experience)

Well, you need to make onpage and offpage SEO
For link building, free and good source are article marketing (you write article, and submit to sites like ezinearticles.com), social bookmarking, link xchanges, directory submitting etc. etc.
also, dont target keyword with big competition.
use tools, like www.wordtracker.com to find keyword simillar to your's, but don't have big competition.
