I was just wondering how I can do this, I dont believe my registrar does this, I just wanted say a black page with white "Coming Soon" on the homepage

I have a couple of domains that are being developed and I didnt want them just parked.

Any suggestions on other wording would be appreciated

Thanks all

Create a simple page in whatever you have that
makes html pages and call it index.html

dreamweaver etc

yeah, just create a simple HTML page--

Here is the code--
<html>
<head><title>Coming soon</title></head>
<body>
<b>Coming Soon</b>
</body></html>
Save it as index.html and remove the existing default.html or index.html from the directory.

You also need a basic hosting account to host the page that you create.

Can get one for a couple of dollars a month.

I am sure a friend of mine changed his nameservers to some other 3rd party site and that gave him this capability, I may be wrong though

Yes, a service is there.

Check this out: LaunchSplash :music:

Another solution would be parking your domain with WhyPark. It allows you to insert custom HTML content on your parked pages for free, for example a custom image (you need to host it elsewhere, I use tinypic for this) saying 'coming soon'. So your domain wouldn't point to an empty page with just an image but your homepage would also be full of clickable autogenerated articles.

Parked.com allows you to place custom content on your parked page (and is free unlike whypark) might be a solution until you get your hosting and a good way to see if your domain is getting typeins too

enom has a free website available with its domains, but its hard to use and is limited to several canned designs.

Whypark has a free account and a paid account, the free one is enough for most users.

i never got enough hits from my whypark to justify upgrading , i guess workd for some , but somrthing for free is of course good , espcially for this situation

Quick simple solution:

Create a blogger site, use the most simple template, add "Coming Soon!" (or whatever) and forward your domain using masking.

Just don't turn on the adsense function.

You could actually use the same blogger site for all your domains that you don't want to park. Just forward all to this one site.

Somewhat similar to that is the Ice Breaker WordPress theme. Basically it lets you promote your RSS feed and Twitter account before you launch your WordPress site.

If you don't think you're going to make any money from parking anyway, I'd keep it away from any services like WhyPark, Parked.com, etc.

You might as well put a page like this up if you have development plans later. It transitions well if you plan on using WordPress too, just switch the themes.

a custom "Comming Soon" page can be placed only in 3 available options:

1) Your registrar gives you free hosting space with domain, you can set up a hosting account their itself and create index.html file with comming soon message. Change the parking nameservers to hosting nameservers (If both are different).

2) Use 3rd-party web host (free / paid ) nameservers you may have your account with an park it on your web host account by applying its own nameservers. Again follow the above steps.

3) As stated by Ms Domainer in her post above you can forward a domain to a blog. Take help of domain masking while doing this. It will help your original domain to keep its URL in address bar.
