I now own a domain I've never heard of

I rarely log into my SnapNames account and only bid on one domain there. Imagine my surprise yesterday when I received an email from them stating that I had won a domain for $60. I have never heard of this domain and know nothing about it. I emailed customer support and was told the order was placed on Thursday. I seem to have no other unauthorized charges on my credit card.

Has this happened to anyone before? It has me rather concerned. Should I just cancel my SnapNames account?

that is rather unnerving, is the domain any use?

i would change the pass etc for the snap account, never know you might want to use snap again sometime

It's happened to me a few times. Here is my scenario. Usually with dot nets and dot orgs
I copy a domain without its extension and paste it in the "backorder this domain search" box.
Then snapnames searches and finds the domain with the dot com and without looking I press the backorder button.
It may not be the same in your case, but in my case, it was "operator error."

Did you check the whois on the name ? It might have been registered by someone else but landed into your snap account for some unknown reason.
