I have agreed to edit someone's website while their webdesigner is away. These people use www.fasthosts.co.uk
All they want me to do is to add some pictures, text, perhaps on a few new pages with the same design of the rest of the website.
I got the password/account number etc.
When I log into the site, the only thing I see that I beleive could be useful is ''Configure website''. When I click on that all I see is things about username, password, account number, url, FTP number, ISP etc.

What do I do to edit this site?

Do I need to install FTP/CuteFTP on my computer? If so, what do I do then?
Please help me!!!

(btw, yes, I know I am not fit for the job lol)

You need to find a "File Manager" in their control panel OR use a FTP program to access their files. If you don't know how to use a FTP program, you really shouldn't be messing with the site! You could easily mess things up for them in a big way.

Call them up and be honest with them, doing nothing is better than doing harm.

I suggest using CuteFTP and upload files and edit them. Also if you do not know how to edit files u shouldnt even touch them!

Yeah... If you've never used an FTP program before it might be a good idea to just not mess around with it.

They'd probably appreciate the honesty if you were to let them know you might not be the right person for the job... and who knows, they might be able to find someone else fairly quickly that knows exactly what they're doing.

There's nothing wrong with not knowing how to use an FTP program, everyone has to start somewhere... but it probably isn't a good idea to learn on someones live, developed site.

Do you have any webspace of your own? If you do... download CuteFTP or SmartFTP and get to know it a bit.

Hope it all works out ok.
