Hello,

Next year i will be offering for sale a three letter domain i have been holding since 1998. What is the best way to go about selling it.

Thanks in advance

Hi, welcome to np (y)

What extension is it?

Indeed what extension ?
If it's a dot com that looks good then your going to be in for a good payday. However, I remember all three letter dot coms being long gone even in 1998.

Thank you for the response. It is a .com domain. I have been offered 100K. I think it is worth far more than that. I figure as time goes on it will be worth more.

When we are ready to sell i was thinking of making a landing page to promote it.

Generally, a 3 letter .com is a good pay day. That being said, the specific letters always play a big role and can be the difference between a quick 5, 6 or even 7 figure pay day. If I were you, I'd make a landing page stating that the domain is for sale and see what type of offers you get. Then you can pivot from there.

Good luck!

Looking at your profile picture, I'm guessing you are exactly the same age as me (63)!

Depends on the TLD.

Thanks for the reply. That is exactly what i was going to do. I was thinking about trademarking it in the classes that it fits best in. It is currently not trademarked in those classes. Do you think that is worthwhile?

I mentioned to others that i have been offered as high as $100K. I was thinking that if i have a trademark too it might sweeten the deal. Assuming the new owner fits into the class i would be trademarking.

Lucky man! It would take about ten minutes to make a landing page, so you might as well!

Create a namepros lander where people can send enquiries. 3 letter .com from 1998 is a 6 figure domain.

I don't have anything at that level but if I did that's the way I would go. Full transparency on who contacts you, they have to verify email, lots of useful data, free to use, and you don't even need to sell it yet - build up a list of potential buyers.

Thank you for your reply and insight. I will do as you suggest.

I searched the USTPO and the three letters are not trademarked in the classes that it fits best in. Would trademark it in those classes?

There's a member on here who is very knowledgable on that front. I will leave that to him if he wants to advise.
From my perspective - I cannot see how getting the trademark could harm, but at same time if its a long expensive process I also don't know how much it would affect domain value to be worthwhile.

Forget about registering trademarks, they're irrelevant and of no value when selling a domain name. There's nothing you need to do other than set up a landing page. You can optionally reach out to brokers, like Snagged or Grit or MediaOptions or you could try and sell to Oxley or Hilco. If you're willing to share the domain then people can give more meaningful advice (e.g: the approach for bug.com is different to zxl.com).

Keep in mind that even if a domain is worth $500k it might take years (or decades) to find a buyer. So, you're balancing timeline and price (unless there's a buyer out there who already wants the domain).

most would be happy to get 100k on 3lcom.

but there are exceptions...

and sometimes a rich and or motivated buyer

is it 1word?

is it pronouncable?

I assume it has no qxzjkv letters?

did u counter the 100k?

Welcome to NP Mogmen!

You can sell it right here. Just create an offer link and direct traffic from your domain to the NP offer page, just like @Dream Domains did for the MakeMoney domain.

Gdluck in advance
