Next year i will be offering for sale a three letter domain i have been holding since 1998. What is the best way to go about selling it.

Thanks in advance

Forget about registering trademarks, they're irrelevant and of no value when selling a domain name. There's nothing you need to do other than set up a landing page. You can optionally reach out to brokers, like Snagged or Grit or MediaOptions or you could try and sell to Oxley or Hilco. If you're willing to share the domain then people can give more meaningful advice (e.g: the approach for bug.com is different to zxl.com).

Keep in mind that even if a domain is worth $500k it might take years (or decades) to find a buyer. So, you're balancing timeline and price (unless there's a buyer out there who already wants the domain).
thanks for the reply and suggestions.

I realize that it will take time, I have had it for 27 years, so waiting for right buyer is not a problem.

Thanks again for your input.

https://namebio.com/ will inform you well.

Play around with the filters; wholesale, retail, recent, highest, tld, etc.

Did you manage to hand-register the domain in 1998. If so you'd had to be extremely lucky to have found a decent 3 letter domain. I appreciate you've had a 100k offer in the past but I strongly suspect this is going to be a domain with at least one or two of the least popular letters in the mix.

I don't think you can envisage a continuous increase in value for all 3 letter .coms as the years go by. I'd have liked to read that you've had many unsolicited offers around 100k over these last 27 years ,to be confident

Look forward to you disclosing the domain, nothing really to speculate on otherwise

When you register a TM you need to provide evidence of the products/services you sell, else it will fail to be registered. It also depends if it's a dictionary word or made up one. This is a long story short, you need customers to buy something you try to TM, that's it.
If you want just to sell the domain faster, then don't bother with TM, but in the end even if you start a business and TM it, it may become more profitable rather than selling the domain alone, it depends on many factors.

I purchased the domain from a business partner in 98. He was the one who acquired it originally.

Yes, i have had multiple offers in the 50-100K range without advertising it.

The domain will be available in Q2 of 27 or sooner.

Create a namepros lander where people can send enquiries. 3 letter .com from 1998 is a 6 figure domain.

I don't have anything at that level but if I did that's the way I would go. Full transparency on who contacts you, they have to verify email, lots of useful data, free to use, and you don't even need to sell it yet - build up a list of potential buyers.

most would be happy to get 100k on 3lcom.

but there are exceptions...

and sometimes a rich and or motivated buyer

is it 1word?

is it pronouncable?

I assume it has no qxzjkv letters?

did u counter the 100k?
WWX.com is the domain.

@Mogmen thanks for sharing more info. The domain history is robust, whois stacks up - Confident you have something desirable and valuable here. Even with the X, the WW is very interesting to me. Now you just need to find the right buyer, looking forward to seeing the outcome.

Very nice domain. Good luck. It's hard to part with domains like this but when the price is right...

Nice.

Thanks Dirk.

It is a nice one and has so much potential IMO. I'm not in a hurry. Time will tell.

Thanks i agree with you.

I am curious, why is X perceived to be negative. In this instance i think it is a positive. X = Exchange, commerce. X = Express, logistics. X= the unknown, X= tech. WW is great in naturally implies "World Wide"

I guess time will tell. Thanks for your support

If you need to ask that question here, then I would highly recommend hiring someone with experience to help you sell it.

Just asking a question. I can surmise why, xxx and it's connotation and i know Elon and X.com are not the most popular.

I doubt i need professional help. The product should sell itself. BTW i have 38 years experience selling high value assets so i do have some experience with sales and negotiating. Thanks for your input.

Thanks for sharing the domain and that you purchased it registered from your business partner. This answers all the questions. It's certainly a better domain than I was expecting.

As mentioned it's probably going to take some time to match it to the best paying buyer. Even though these are not super desirable letters (regard regular business acronyms) I can certainly see a Streaming or such like business running with it. It certainly LOOKs good

Holding a domain from 1998. Amazing . Still a blank domain or website ? Here SEO value would come into play.

You could probably get "up to $499" if you put it in the Buyer Requests forum.

Atlernatively, if this is legitimately your domain and for sale (it looks like an operational business), you should get 7+ figures.

Worldwide Exchange is great name for crypto marketplace, and crypto literally just prints money.

Whatever an exchange would offer you, even 7 or 8 figures, costs them almost nothing because just they created their own token out of thin air.

It's regged till 2030, so you could just slap a landing page with a $10m asking price or put an email address on a blank page and consider offers above 7 figures.

Although there are 17,576 3-letter combos, there are only 26 double letter + X names.

So while it's not objectively the greatest 3 letters, X seems to be gaining popularity recently, perhaps due to Musk and/or the explosion of exchanges/DEX, and it's 3 letters with huge potential in a massive sector rolling in dough.

Domain names are a different animal to other assets :xf.smile:
Many potential buyers still don't understand what a really good domain name can bring. There are people with a lot of experience finding (and selling to) the right buyer, and handling everything else, including sales agreements, safe transfer of the name, and secure payment. And even after their commission, you very well might end up with more than you would have if you'd gone it alone. It's up to you, but I'd at least speak to a few while you're considering your options.

If you're not in a rush, spend a while reading about it all on here.
Best of luck (y)
