anybody got expewrience with this stuff? maybe some russians here? can't remember off top my head..

I was contacted by russian broker hired by russian buyer for a name.

I wanted to do epik escrow... but as I expected, the broker may want to ensure their cut etc by pointing me to finalize deal via some russian registrar+payment receive system...

any commnts or experiences with this kind of stuff? thanks!!

    I'll paste the broker email:

"The client has ordered a service, under the condition of which we are the Guarantor of the transaction. To conduct a transaction https://www.reg.ru/domain/service/guarantee, you need to transfer the domain to REG.RU.

We can make the operation https://www.reg.ru/domain/service/guarantee only in national currency at the rate of the CBR.
Withdrawals can be made to the owner’s current account.
    Do you agree?"

    Reg.ru/.com - among TOP3 Russian registrars...
For some TLDs they also act as TUCOWS reseller.
That's all I can say here.

i'm afraid that "withdrawals" can only be made in Russian currency and only to a Russian banking account if the transaction amount is over $250..

reg.ru is well established and legit, that's true
but there are limitations and hurdles when it comes to transferring money out of Russia.

i would first contact reg.ru directly on that..

btw do you know and trust the broker?

    ty for info

no I never dealt in a russian setup .. registrar.. or broker before. so I do not know any brokers there.. do I trust this broker.... well.. I do not trust them to give them my name without money or what not... but I trust them enough to believe its a valid broker and inquiry from buyer... seems totally legit inquiry.

actually I just noticed the brokers email is @reg.ru...so looks like maybe my name somehow ended up on reg.ru for make offer... (not likely huh?).. or someone just hired broker from reg.ru to inquire on this.

well... I guess I have no choice but to offer a whole folio of various markets and options where buyer can buy this.. then forward this to broker... set my bins ebverywhere.. and tell them to pick one... checkout.. pay.. and then transfer out the name to reg.ru if they really want to...

so I'd offer sedo... gd auctions... afternic.. etc.. heck... maybe I should try to call an afternic agent and maybe they are setup in russia for quick sale and payment withdrawl etc... I think that could be an idea!

    gl to me heh

reg.ru wants the deal to be closed via their marketplace or they'll lose the commissions. understandably.

if and when they lose their interest you may lose the buyer. that's not uncommon. e.g. if they don't speak English or are offered another name by reg.ru which can be conveniently sold via reg.ru instead of Sedo etc..

i can call reg.ru and ask questions for you if you have any
pm me if you want me to

    thanks. appreciate it.

I wonder if there is a chance at all they want me to sell it there so they can offer it to buyer for whatever price they wish for on reg.ru...

apparently this was simply a case of buyer/enduser going to reg.ru.. maybe entering my name in registration bar... then reg.ru saying its already taken but click here to hire a broker who can buy it for you.. and I guess this is why and how the reg.ru broker contacted me.

the .com version of my name goes to a stocks/forex trading russian site...

    Hello.
The broker with "@reg.ru" e-mail - is the corporate Reg.Ru official broker. I suppose her name is Nataly Shevluga. And it's no tricks.
So, I think it's common case.
Some russian end-user like and want to buy the domain name you have. And he apply to official broker to make a deal. From their side it's clear.
But Reg.ru manage domains and support deals inside Reg.ru only.
So, to make sale, you need to open account in Reg.ru, make the domain transfer to Reg.ru, and than make sale in "Reg.ru Domain Names Shop". And you get money as Russian Rubles at Reg.ru account. And finally apply to Reg.ru to make withdrawal.

Which is the domain name extention?
You can apply to me with questions you have. Here or PM welcome.

thanks for info. that is terribly inconvenient. no offence to rubles, but I do not want to be paid in rubles.. then have potentail withdrawal issues or what not... are you aware of any other method they may be handling it? like buying through sedo or afternic.. paying them.. then they can setup a transfer through afternic to reg.ru fairly easily I think.

    its .io

    cheers

I just found that reg .ru has been removed Afternic's listings from their system. .. or Afternic removed reg .ru from their partner network. so @alcy i would stay away from reg .ru

thanks.. hmm I actually contacted an afternic broker few mins ago to see if they can assist in any way.... I ended up giving him the broker email etc.. and the name... so he'll do his best to convince to buy at afternic.. then transfer to reg.ru...

I presume they have this broker in their database from other deals before... afternic has thousands of deals through the years.

the broker did not mention anything bad or wrong about reg.ru... which does not mean what you said isn't true of course.

all in all, it may boil down to how badly the buyer wants the name. to maybe ask broker to go a bit out of their way in completing sale.

if all this goes down the drain maybe I'll ask a very reputable np member with reg.ru and or russian bank account or such... to take the name transfer from me to him there on reg.ru... set it all up.. get paid... send me usd$ equivalent funds in some way... and take an afternic equivalent cut or so for his time.

    cheers.

Reg.ru broker will not make deal at independent marketplace. And she will not give enduser's direct contacts to you.
And you don't like to pass long way without pre-payment or other guaranties and not interested to get rubles :)
But you know that some russians want to get your domain.
If enduser wanna get .io - he not newbie in internet business, but applied to broker for domain name - don't have experiens with domains.
So, if you put the domain on parking or marketplace with big banner "Buy now for $**" - it will be a good chance to sell it to that buyer, if the price will met.

    lol yes true

yes.... the name does redirect to sedo bin page at that price.... sedo supposed to be very popular in europe. many sales there.

the other option of course is that buyer wants exact same thing as broker... or buyer wants it even more than broker... and specifically told broker not to do it outside reg.ru... and to complete this via reg.ru... the reaosns could be many... but he may think this is the only or the most secure way to buy a domain. I wouldn't blame him for thinkin this. but it still wouldn't be true.... cause sedo... afternic or what not.. are just as secure.

sometimes people are just used to doing things certain way. even with 100 other options around...

    cheers

reg.ru is legit, but the whole story smells fishy... Albeit many folks here suggested it's ok. But how ever legit it is, i would not deal with Russian banks, Russian payment systems, Russian registrars, Russian business at all. I know everything there and i speak Russian better than 95% Russians, but good night sleep is more important than a few extra bucks.

yes... dealing in rubles and russian registrars or banks is not very exciting to me either.. and I am not thrilled by this.. still.. its a mid 4 figure sale on a 30$ reg... so... if I don't do anything about it.. I'll probably have a couple nitemares too hahha (jk).

I'll give it couple days with afternic... then correspond with broker a bit myself.. then if all fails maybe ask some old np member with reg.ru accnt and ru bank account if he wants to make 20% or so handling all of this.

    thanks. cheers.

    thanks appreciate it

this looks legit... the problem I'd have here is probably relating more to things like rubles payout... withdrawls.. payout methods... withdrawl limits... conversions.. etc...

but I do agree with you a lot of scams come out of russia too.

If they are well-known domainers, they for sure can use any trusted platform as GD or Sedo or Flippa.
Why they want you to visit russian websites and platforms?
In domaining the comun coins are US dollar.

    good points.
but the buyer is probably just enduser (as I said the .com of the name goes to a sotcks trading russian platform)........ he possibly knows nothing about domains.. so they hired broker... who knows a lot about domains :)

as to who insisted this be done on reg.ru and in rubles... well... it could be the broker.. could be the buyer... or both... hard to say... but like someone else said here before.. probably if I transfer to reg.ru and sell there.. this is the only way for broker to get commission... and obviously... the broker won't do anytinig without his share :)

    cheers.

20% - good comission for "some mouse clicks" ;)
But for correct calculations you should know about 13% tax for deals in rubles for private persons (or 20% VAT for organisations).
And Reg.ru broker comission is about 10%.
And payment system or banking comission 1-3% for withdrawal and to pass funds to you then.
    And RUR/USD exchange rates.
So, if the deal is for $100, and you expect to get $80 at account - your "new russian friend" earn about zero, or even spend some own money.
    Just to let you know.
Make direct deal with enduser at international platform - best way. If you get direct contact with them, better suggest it, and ask to contact somebody else, not Reg.ru broker only. We have big russian forums for domaining and SEO etc, it's no proplem to find full information about all the stuff in russian language, and find a lot of people who have experience.
    Good luck.
