There is a domain I'm interested in and I checked the whois, I can see the following

Creation Date: 2001-10-15T17:41:47Z
Updated Date: 2014-12-16T08:43:11Z
Registry Expiry Date: 2013-10-15T17:41:47Z
Sponsoring Registrar:Tuonome IT (R351-LRMS)
Sponsoring Registrar IANA ID: 380
WHOIS Server:
Referral URL:
Domain Status: clientHold
Domain Status: clientTransferProhibited
Registrant ID:APISRS-215339-MY

How is it possible that domain expiry date is 2013-10-15 and updated on 2014-12-16?

The domain is unavailable, I searched for "Domain Status: clientHold" description but it's too generic to let me understand what it is.
The domain is an .info domain and the data I posted above are directly from afilias (I just removed the links in it because I can't post them).

Can someone with more experience than me tell me what may be a plausible explanation?
Thank you

Did you check it on multiple whois sites? Sometimes some of them don't update every time and use cached results.

I see it's a 2001 reg, so maybe it's one of those domains claimed at sunrise on the basis of dubious TMs at the time. A number of domains have since been revoked, have expired but have remained frozen at registry level.

Yeah, I guess that could be one possibility. I haven't encountered one like that myself before so I just don't know for sure.

Yes I checked multiple whois over 2 months , I can tell you the domain because it is unavailable and I think it's not worth anything .

Yeah, it says expired in 2013. It also says "Client Hold". See below:
clientHold --

Ok, I already posted about "client Hold" and I can see on icann site this definition "It is an uncommon status that is usually enacted during legal disputes, non-payment, or when your domain is subject to deletion." and "Often, this status indicates an issue with your domain that needs resolution.", I'm just trying to learn and this is a very generic explanation, that's why I asked here, just to know if any of you have already come across similar situations in order to give me some concrete examples of specific plausible explanation.

I have never come across this exact situation, hopefully someone who has can help you out. You might be able to ask a mod, maybe Eric Lion. He knows quite a lot and might be able to give you the info you are looking for.
