If you read my article here Colin of .club tweeted that 10,000 .club sites are to be built. I recognize one of the men in the picture. He owns 4.cn

That is good news for .CLUB!

All indicators are showing that .CLUB has a bright future.

1. High renewal rates.
2. Domains are being used to create websites.
3. Growing aftermarket sales.
4. Good marketing and partnerships being developed by the registry.
5. Buyouts happening.

Feel free to add...

Considering that most of the domains sold to Chinese never become websites, this is huge news. It means .club is legitimate for revenue websites. I am building out electroniccigarettes.club now.

IMO one of the few gtld's that make sense...

"10,000" ... What does that even mean? ;) Sounds like 10,000 templates put on .club domains, rather than 10,000 "sites".

Building 10K sites is no easy feat, so I think you're right about using some sort of template to mass produce sites. Still... this is far better than parking 10K domains, imo.

Article? More like a sentence! You can come up with more than that for us.

Let's just see if they "build" 10,000 websites. Yeah right. Of course they are going to say something like that to promote .club.

Seems like more pump and hype.

Didn't Marchex announce something like that back in the day?

It's amazing what comes out of the mouths of marketing guys in the front office and makes the tech guys in the back room who have to actually do the work to roll their eyes and look for the exits.

I seen their first site. Nice logo that reads "Domain For Sale"

Not sure this really helps anything. 10,000 sites built in Chinese? And with that many, I can't imagine too much quality. It takes a little something to build quality sites. Looks like marketing fluff, non-story, nothing actually built yet.

I also can't find the article, just a link to a tweet.

Of course it is marketing, why else would they announce it. This entire market is going to dip in prices. Mark my words.

You are forecasting a dip across the board for all domains?

How exactly does 10K templated sites differ from parking, exactly? ;) That's basically the definition of decently optimized parking...

I have no idea what the sites will have. I would assume they would have said 10,000 parked pages if that was their intention. These guys are major players, they don't build parked pages. Visit www.258.com and see how powerful the sites are. You have to stop thinking like a domainer. These guys are business men.

How powerful the sites are? You mean the categories?

I mean once upon a time, there was about.com... 4everything.com... and on and on.

Attempting to develop 10,000 worthwhile sites rather than a few prominent ones is a doomed disaster of templates plain and simple.

Here's the difference:

Parked domains:
  • nothing but ads on there
  • no crawable content which means it will get removed from Google's index
  • does not provide any value except to serve ads
Templatized sites:
  • more than a page full of ads
  • may have similar designs but can have unique content which can be indexed by search engines
  • may provide value to readers
No one knows how in-depth they will get with their site development, but a templatized site is much different from a parked domain.

The Chinese stock market fell 6% today. They manipulate their currency and global buying is slowing down. They are not using as much oil any longer which means they are making less. When a country reduces the amount of oil they are buying their economy is slowing down. Also how do investors make money, they make the market. They (chinese investors) will drive all liquid domain name prices down. They will come in and scoop up domains on the cheap and start to drive the price up selling on the up swing and then do it all over again. Look at LLLL .com chips. In December, people were paying $2,300 a name. Now you can buy them daily for $1,800 to $1,900. Look at www.llllsales.com, sales have slowed down.

We do it here in the U.S. with stocks. It is called "market makers". I am buying and flipping not holding. I usually broker large lots of short domains. So many sellers have turned down good deals thinking that prices are going to see another run like December. It ain't gonna happen my friends. The lll .co price drive is feeding frenzy only. Also go to Registered.today. Look at how they are buying up alternative extensions like .club. They are making a market.

So as a domain owner and not just a broker, I am watching the supply and demand on .club. There is way too much buying going on and now this 10,000 website announcement to think that .club has or will have no value. Now all this is my opinion. I use common sense, big data and the principals I would picking a stock. Bottom line, this is a commodity to Chinese domain buyers. They have no intent of building businesses around the names. Some will like these fellows with .club. The other 99% will resell the names they bought and buy back on the dip. It will be an endless cycle with now hundreds of new extensions.

I bought 180 CHIP llll .club names at .99 cents a name at godaddy and over 200 hobby names. Names like DroneOnwer.club etc. I intend to develop the hobby clubs and sell the CHIPs when they reach my target point. The amount of money that can be made with a drone site as an affiliate is incredible.

I know a lot of you will read this and see it ONLY from a domainer view. Domains have value far beyond wholesale value. If you have 100 sites and 10 make it, 2 of that 10 may be the site that makes you wealthy. So take my opinion with a grain of salt.

Just on your LLLL .com point ... You can't buy them daily for $1,800 to $1,900. Not chips, at least.

You can set the system to show you just chips. Here's the link with that setting:
http://www.llllsales.com/index.php?p=32768&o=64

Now, yes, you CAN go back a few weeks to the week of Chinese new year and FIND those lower prices. That was entirely expected (at least by most of us seasoned folks). That has been, annually, the worst time to sell Chinese oriented names because, well, they're on vacation (actually between November and February has always always been bad).

Anyway... At this point, you could certainly settle for the occasional CHIP with a "y" around that $1,900 range, but typically Y has been borderline chip and that plays out in the last few pages of pricing.

Just wanted to point that out. ;)

That's a great website www.258.com

...And check out that phone number pinyin lovers 4006-258-258 (4 & 0 no problems at all) ;)

...& the largest domain market place in China www.4.cn

In saying that I'm still a bit of a hypocrite as I don't own many numerics with 4 & 0. I did just register 8888-888-888.com although I don't like hyphens it could make a great Chinese phone number and website... I got the idea from 258 website phone number.

888-8888-888.com was taken and someone is hoping a tad too much for it! I did notice $8,888 sale price to try and make it more appealing lol.. Maybe $88 or $888 it might sell lol
