Hello, I was wondering what you guys recommend I should learn and do to get a webpage. The webpage would offer free articles, blogs and a forum about personal development. I was searching around and have seen alot of free webpage's offered. I haven't got one yet but I was curious if they are worth it or if I should look into learning all the programming and whatever else goes into it myself. Any recommendations on where to go or what to learn? Thank you for your help.

Edit: I also have a experiance with visual basic, directx9 and could easily learn more languages if need be. I am planning on putting some computer games I've programed on an additional webpage or maybe tie it in with that webpage somehow.

Unless you are willing to invest a good amount of time, you probably are not going to pick up the programming side of building a web page if you are new to the scene.

One decision you will need to make is who will be your webserver. You're not going to get the features and look you seek with a free program.

I would recommend you find a server that has forum and other features like chat, polls, and if possible a drag and drop feature. This would eliminate most, if not all, html code.

Yahoo software can get your website in a hurry, but it doesn't really have a polished look. I am currently using Hostmonster to host my site, which is highly recommend, but isn't really user friendly for a person brand new to web design.

I was in your shoes about 2 months ago and it can be frustrating at times. I think the best recommendation I can give is to do some research and read what independent (not commerical) reviews and individual reviews on whatever you decide to use/purchase.

I wish you well and if you ever need free advertising, please visit my site Byros.com.

Head to the local bookstore if you really must do it yourself. There are online tutorials, but nothing beats a good book. Since you have some programming background, things will come a little easier to you most likely but it still will take time. It also wouldn't hurt to look for a host with the features mentioned above. There are a lot of choices out there and there are some hosts that target clients just like you.

If say, you were to make a webpage, you sure must have some basic knowledge of HTML, CSS so as to make a decent web design yourself, if not you'd end up hiring a web master or using premade templates.

It's good to start off at w3schools to learn HTML, xHTML and PHP. Tutorials are all over the internet, do a quick search at Google or Yahoo, they're your best friend now.

Good luck in starting your own personal webpage!
