Hi,

After painstakingly validating my website, my site still does not show correctly in Firefox.

Is there a site anyone could recommend to do similar validation for Firefox? Or even just a list of know differences between IE and Firefox? I though XHTML validation would ensure compatibility across all websites?

XHTML will only go as far as it can...but if you have it incorrectly placed it will still screw up...unfortunately it can be quite hard to work out how to fix the bugs, its just a case of trial and error...remove chuncs of code, if the error is still there, it wasn't that bit...etc

pending on how important this site is to you/your biz I'ed leave it. With my websites a very very small percent of visitors use firefox so I probally wouldn't worry.

If it is a big deal do what rmwebs said, trail and error, you'll eventually work it out.

When designing a website you should always test using a respected browser like Opera or Firefox, when you're finished open up IE and use any of the dozens of hacks available for it.

The reason for this is that the problems in IE are very specific and workarounds are already available for 90% of the bugs. Also, just because a page validates correctly doesn't mean it's well structured.

The first problem with your page is that you have a H1 tag around the header. Simply remove the H1 from the header or apply margin:0 to it and the navigation should be sorted out. The reason this doesn't display nicely in FF is because all heading and paragraph elements have top and bottom margins by default. Also, don't use a heading for the layout because it's only meant for text.

Thanks for the advice. The site is now 99% firefox compatible. I've just got a small bug to fix in one of the pages.

For anyone else who needs to check their sites, as well as downloading firefox, i found browsercam and icapture really useful for checking other browsers and system set-ups. Unfortunately, virtually all of my domains fail on these! More work... :td:

This is the thing you MUST do..., Don't design your site for Internet Explorer, design it for firefox, then preview it in Internet Explorer, then use some mods to make it view good in IE
