How to secure a domain without Snapnames

Is there any way to get a good expired domain without companies like Snapnames? What right do they have to make thousands, or more off names people dropped and their system automatically picked up? It seems like a total rip-off and an unnecessary middle-man. But... it's legal.

Maybe if we ignore it, it will go away. :hehe:

PremiumDrops has gotten me a couple of good ones, and the "backordering" was free (the site has converted to paid-subscription only now, but there is a 3 day trial)

There are a couple of programs (software) that use the enom or moniker apis to try and register the name for you. Called Domain Name Grabber, I believe.

Other than that, if the name is really that important to you, wait until the last minute and order it at NameJet.com Hopefully you won't get a ton of people bidding on it, and you can still get it relatively cheap.
