How to pick better traffic names

Ok....... I've picked up several "traffic" names lately and many of them have turned into duds, so I'm wondering if anyone can help me to avoid doing this.

I use tools such as Majestic SEO - although I admit to not knowing what half of it means and I also utilize the WB machine to check what type of site it was and avoid stuff like spammy looking sites and link farms...... but yet I still end up with duds.

I'm not exactly sure what type of numbers I am looking for, but on Majestic SEO I look for stuff like..

* At least 100 referring domains
* Referring domains shouldn't be massively under the external backlinks number (ie; 44k backlinks vs 23 referring domains); I also look at the referring IP's and subnets.

I will share a recent pickup that I thought would be good looking at it's numbers, that name was "seomarketingniche.com" .... but it turned into a complete dud.. it's numbers look good!? Why did it turn out to be so bad!?

even looking at that name, it wouldn't appear to have reliable traffic

as you have no 'inbound" links according to:

statsie.com/seomarketingniche.com

back in the day 'marketleap' was excellent source to check links

but now, i'd try to refrain from looking at 'link traffic' names.

imo...

Most if mine are duds as I am not going for parking specifically and am new, but if you check for some of the parameters in this thread it may help

There's a really good thread here

I agree, I am guessing the most likely black hatted messed-with domains will be SEO type ones.

I'd go for the most urgent, painful, embarrassing, fundamental to life and expensive services or products that people need (real NEED not just want or like). More likelihood of clicks and higher click values too with a motivated reader. Works for Adsense anyway and the principles seem the same to me, though I am not experienced in parking.

What other types are there? Just typos and generic typeins? Latter are rare and cost $$$$$$ and former can be hard to find and are filled with possible legal issues.

You can go longer (and more ugly, maybe dashes too??). I have some 4 word keyword type financial .coms that receive traffic and have had a few clicks in the 2 months I've had them. I found them using keyword analysis GKWT CPC and volume only, never looked at existing links.

They are a bit ugly to sell, though I do have them listed for sale, but I imagine they are far from what domainer would want and they are a bit unwieldy for a business name, hence why I could get them for reg fee.

buying link traffic is not something to just jump into

you need to know where the inbound links to that domain, are situated on those home sites.

outbound links are meaningless

common sense terms and phrases often get type-ins, but if you aren't willing to spend money (generic type-in's) to make money....then can't help ya.

there are some domainers looking for a quick flip, who will part with rev names for 6- 12 months earnings.

just gotta have cash ready when good buys come around.

Why would any tool report "outbound" links anyway if they are useless?

they (tool) may just report total number of links and you may have to dig deeper, to see whether they are in or out.

check for alexa rank, that's how you will know if the domain have any traffic

alexa rank does not guarantee, that the domain has traffic, as that too can be manipulated.
