Sometimes I get responses where I'm not sure what has happened. I sent a regular pitch (without a price) and the reply I got was: "Yes, I'll take 200 for it." That's all the reply was.

The reply is non-sequitur. The domain I'm selling is the .com version of the .net.

A part of me sees it as a veiled FU. Do I just ask for clarification?
Perhaps reply was meant more like "Yes, I'll offer 200 for it."?
Or, you may be right :D

I agree with copper. It sounds like a poorly worded offer.

Ok, I will reply tomorrow with an attempt to clarify if that is what was meant. It just seams really odd someone would mistake the word "offer" for "take" given it changes the whole context of the communication.

I wouldn't waste an email trying to clarify. I would just reply as if they meant to say "I would like to offer $200." If that's less than you are looking for, politely decline their offer and give them your asking price or an idea of the price range you're after.

Ok, forget about the word "offer" I used.

How about...
"Yes, I'll take 200 for it." was meant for
"Yes, I'll take it for 200." :)

Or, it may just mean F-OFF :D

Can any good ever come from a response of "I'd pay up to $100.00" when the price you quoted was $900? Any experience when the buyer is so far away from your target?

I cant speak for others, but I've had this happen a fews times.
In two of those instances I was able to rent the domain out for a year
at their offering price. One turned into a buyer at my asking price,
the other didn't wish to proceed with purchase therefore I changed the nameservers back to my parking page.

Just another option,
GL

He clarified after I assumed it was an offer. He said he'll take the domain off my hands if I pay him $200.
That was good! Very creative. I guess business isn't so good these days.

That's THE MOST hilarious thing I ever heard.
At least you seem rather amused by it and that's good, I guess :p

Is it possible to transfer the domain first? It's happened before that I have paid and got nothing. I want to have the domain first, then pay. I am firm on this, you must do this if you want my money.

I received this response after emailing a potential end user offering a domain that I thought is superior to their existing one (without actually suggesting it was better):

No thankyou
Our names are just fine

I responded politely thanking the person for getting back to me and letting me know.

Should I have tried to educate them on URL redirects, or how I thought they could benefit from a (at least in my opinion) better domain name?

Or is it best just to do what I did and move on to researching and emailing the next potential end user?

Yea, you did the right thing moving on. IMO

I learned after several trials in the past that "no thank you" means "no thank you" :)

Unless the domain is actually receiving targeted traffic that might make them change their mind your chance is 1%. IMO

Good Luck,
Sameh
