It's worth a couple minutes of your time to pitch to a .org, particularly if its a heavily frequented site (see complete.com), has a large endowment, or is backed by a for-profit group.

So far I have been able to sell my domains to non-profits for $150-250, individuals for $250-$350, and small businesses for $450-$650 with little negotiation. Non-profits are generally the lowest-paying genre on the spectrum, but they'll punch holes in their pockets if the domain you're pitching them is relevant and significantly better than their own.

For example, today I sold a three-short-word non-hyphenated .com name to a small NYC outreach organization who owned the hyphenated version of the .org domain. I asked $400, they countered with $150, and we ended up settling for $250. Not bad for 10 minutes of my time.

Good question...also in the same vain almost is, how good is it to see a .com domain to a .org company since most developed .org domains are non profit organazations or companies ? I really ned help with this one and wonder if worth pitching to them.

I finally sent out my first 5 e-mails, to companies in the jewellery trade, with a couple of names I thought they might be interested in. I'll let you know how things progress. I only sent 5 because it is difficult finding companies that I thought would be interested.

Over the past week:

Super IVR/ com - $50
Fuze Magazine/ com - $150

Two successful flips. Hoping for more soon.

And a large sale pending payment I can't talk about quite yet, though this was a brokered domain, not my own effort.

I've tried to send an e-mail with this format to one customer.

Code:
Dear Mr. {NAME},

I am {MYNAME}, owner of the domain: {DOMAIN}.com
I am currently offering this domain "for sale".
Should your company, have interest in acquiring this domain, please
feel free to contact me by e-mail ({MYEMAIL}).

Yours sincerely,

{MYNAME}.

But don't get any reply. Does this e-mail not "interesting" enough to be replied? :-/

Any help will be appreciated :)

I've been using that exact letter sample for over a year and it worked just fine for me. It is short, professional and gets you straight to the point. I would't change or add anything to it. In your case, sometimes you would need to send a hundred emails to get a respond, so just keep on trying and don't give up.

Remember.

1. There are no best ways to sell to end users
2. There is no best email format.
3. Be truthful
4. Give the end user value.
5. Dont be greedy.
6. Pick up the phone when negotiations go stale.

For people that have interest in learning more about email cold calling and actual cold calling over the phone — this blog that has some interesting information on the subject.

You might pick up something reading through the articles that you can apply to your cold calling, either via email or over the phone.

There is also some good information how to find information on getting in touch with decision makers, the ones you need to get hold of to let them know you have a domain that could help their business in one shape or form.

That's already a tough nut to crack since even though you're communicating with a decision maker from marketing or branding most of the time those decision makers are clueless when it comes down to it.

But you won't be sending your emails to info@ or contact@ type of email addresses anymore — so that's a start in the right direction to make yourself heard. ;)

I just sent a letter to NASA trying to sell one of my domain names lol. I wonder how it would go.
The name in question is MarsBase.com
Here is my letter:

-----------------------
Hello:
My name is ********.
I live in *********.
I own the domain name, MarsBase.com.

As the space age arrives, NASA , as the frontrunner in the space race in the world, it is clear that it will be the first organisation to construct a base / space station on the planet Mars.

MarsBase.com , is a perfect name for a website to convey your discovery to the rest of the world. It is generic, short and gives perfect description to Martian explorations.

I have several interested buyers who would like to have this name. If your orgnisation is interested in being a player in acquiring this name also, please let me know ASAP as this domain may not be available in the near future.

Feel free to contact me on my telephone number or via email.

kind regards

Probably not going to get much interest. I would imagine NASA would use the .GOV extension for anything official.

You might get more interest from big-name government contractors that have an interest in getting a piece of the eventual contracts from the new moon-Mars exploration focus. Caterpillar, Halliburton, KBR, etc., spring to mind.

I would agree.. I have MANY "101" style domains that are a PERFECT fit for any college or school but they dont even bother with .com as the .edu is the standard for most any course. Hitting a big company is ok but just dont expect a reply as it may get lost. If NASA or any "major" company wanted your domain they would find it. I think most of the info listed here is for those small companies just starting or wanting to crack open their business via the internet!

Good luck with your pitch, maybe think of sending any space domains to Virgin, as they are soon to be launching space flights.

Trying my luck with a LLLL .org today.
Sent out 30 emails an hour ago using the tips given by Federer. :)
And so far, I have two quick replies.

1 reply with "No Thanks.".
The other saying their company is non-profit, but is willing to listen to my Buy-It Now price.

Waiting for a few more to reply (hopefully!).

Wish me luck. :hehe:
