How to catch a .DE?

I've been waiting for a certain .DE to expire for ages now, and from what the DE registry has told me-- there is no expiry date. So now I'm confused. I'm have a brutal time trying to contact the current owner, and maybe he is getting my emails and just ignorning them.

Does anyone know of a way to obtain a DE or find out a date that it may become available?

Thanks for that, does anyone know where I could get a more specific date on a domain? The DE registry told me there is no specific expiry date as the registrant owns the domain for life... sounds mad, why would they operate like this when no other reigstry does? I don't get it!

It's just as the registry said, more or less.

In contrary to cno, .de names automatically renew unless the owner expicitly deleted the domain or fails to pay.

That's why it's hard to predict drop dates on .de names.

I believe there is some kind of way but you have to have access to the respective zone files and all - i know a (very successful) austrian domain guy who is big in catching .de drops but he has at least 2 programmers working *fulltime* for him that don't do anything else but going after .de drops.

So no easy game here.

DE domains are expiring annualy but they are renew automaticaly by register. Only if he don't want this domain anymore it will expire. Anyway you need to be a german citizen to get .de domains

That's not true, and besides- I'm half German so I dont' think there'll be an issue! Only problem is knowing when the name is gonna be let go (or not) now... :td:
