I do a whois and it points to the host rgnames.com and it's in korean and I can't read korean. Beyond that I have no clue how I would go about contacting and who I'd contact to inquire about a price on a domain I fancy for a business I'm going to start. Would it be best to just hire a broken from sedo or afternic or what would you guys/girls advise?

Also the .net is for sale for $1500 so would that already kinda give me a price on the .com or it depends on the individual? Also there's no point in buying both?

Also I'd like to suggest an organized newbie faq to prevent redundant questions like mine probably are :D

You could compose an offer and translate it with Google Translate. Send both the English and Korean translation to the whois owner. Price is in the eye of the beholder, whatever is being asked for the .net. Personally, I don't see the point in buying both the .com and .net.

Unfortunately google won't translate most of the page...

Also I might be a little slow but how do I submit the offer once I find a translator to translate the page for me? As in how would I go about finding and contacting the owner?

the whois info should list the owner. If it's a private registration then try emailing the email address provided.

Like an idiot I thought whois.net would be like any other whois out there and I was completely wrong. So the website I want belongs to a korean video game maker... I highly doubt they'd sell me the name at a reasonable price even if they weren't planning on using it OR hope that they let it expire and scoop it up? Would it be a good idea to buy the .net just in case the expiration doesn't happen?

Hey, it happens. Glad I could point you in the right direction for whois lookups.

You can always make an offer and see what they say, or buy another extension.

last question.. would waiting for it to expire be a decent option?

If you search you should be able to find a service that will translate emails to and from someone in Korea. That can help your communiction to be as clear as possible and professional. Now that you know it's a game company it may be harder to get the name, so make sure it's really worth the effort and cost.

If they are not using the domain, there is a good chance they will sell it, but you are motivated and they may not be. This may make the price more than you want to pay, so I think you should contact them as a small-time developer who wants the name, but has limited budget. Check Estibot.com and make an offer that is big enough to get their attention, but far below your top price if you can. You can always tap a credit card, or borrow money to up your bid in their eyes. The negotiations may take some time, but if you have the patience it may be worth it.

Now, another option is to see if you can get another domain or domains, and offer them in exchange for the domain you want plus some money. If you learn about the kind of games they offer, you may be able to find something they like more than the one you want.

If you can't get the name and would like some help finding something else, send me a PM and I can try to help.

You will find the name, address, phone, fax of the registrant of the domain in whois info.. then contact him/her and ask about the price.
