Hi, I just wanted to know if my ideas about these terms make any sense... sorry if I ramble.
You register and then you must have the site hosted. You can also have it parked but it isn't necessary to park and host. Oh, where are the best sites to register or host - I remember from reading some posts on the forum that sudo is a good parking site, and was it also free?
Sorry I'm a complete newbie so I have no clue what I should do and in what order. I thought it would be wise to ask what I should do. If nothing else I'd appreciate being set straight on what each of these things do. (Parking, hosting, registering domains)
Thanks!

Anyone?

you can park OR you can create a website, not both, but you don't have to do either.

you can park for free at namedrive, sedo, revenue direct.
these parking services will let you park without approving your portfolio first, so they can be good for newbies. however they are not overall "the best". that really depends upon your domain portfolio itself.

some good registrars IMHO: moniker ( good security of names ), dynadot ( good interface ), godaddy ( good support )

some good hosts IMHO: apthost.com, hostingzoom.com
some popular hosts: hostgator.com, dreamhost.com

parking = another company creates and hosts a very basic website for you, in order to earn money from advertising

hosting = a company sells you some space on their servers, so that you can make a website which is accessible on the internet

registering = you purchase the right to control a domain name of your choosing, by setting which servers it points to

thanks, that all seems to make sense. Do any of those sites you mentioned let you host and act as a registrar? And is it easy to move (or is it "push"?) domains to other hosts or parking websites?
Thanks, the info is helpful -NC-.

GoDaddy will host and register as well as many others. Doster and Godaddy have sales going right now.

Push is only when transfering ownership. The domain is "pushed" from one account to a new owners account.

To move parking or hosting providers is easy with a domain name server (DNS) change in your account control panel.

Are you looking to make money off of parking?

Your name may not be a name people go to and you may find out you made 0 cents on it in a full year. What i would do is park it on sedo and see if you got traffic(people going to the name)

Sedo is free and you can also put the name up for sale at no cost until you sell it.

Its extremly easy to had a name at godaddy and park it at sedo, for example

Remember not all names make money
