So I have seen some threads of people that have got their domains hacked. I am going to share some of the top tips on how to avoid getting your domains scammed.

1# Install this free programs: CCleaner and Malwarebytes
and Install a Anti-Virus

2# Avoid downloading products and free stuff from the internet. Free giveaways of products that are paid are the ones that tends to be more malwares, hackers crack them and then simply add you a RAT/Keylogger that can bypass your anti-virus.

If you want to download from forums etc then make a VirtualBox or buy a VPS or use a another computer for that.

3# Do not click in any of your email links, avoid that! Always check if the email is coming from the right and trusted company. Some emails are very tricky for example I have received one from a fake godaddy scammer saying the following:

Account Notice : Error 2867

Godaddy [email protected] via patria.timeweb.ru

Dear Valued GoDaddy Customer : /Name/

Your account contains more than 3258 directories and may pose a potential performance risk to the server.
Please reduce the number of directories for your account to prevent possible account deactivation.
In order to prevent your account from being locked out we recommend that you create special (tmp) directory.

Thanks tultseo.

I use Microsoft Security Essentials as my PC's AntiVirus and will be updating & scanning the whole system. Is it good enough!?

Cheers!

Hello, I never used Microsoft SE but it looks good. I just took a look at it, however make sure to avoid downloading stuff from the internet because there is programs that can bypass anti-virus, hackers simply cript a file and it becomes undetectable to the most of the anti-virus. I´t seems like MSE also does check for malwares just like malwarebytes but I´d recommend you to install CCLeaner and clean your pc once a while.

Cheers :)

Nice and helpful Guide :)
I believe that adding a two factor authentication as a step is a must.
Even the most complicated password can be discovered or guessed.
Example: Name.com two factor authentication, NameCheap.com etc.
It can help avoiding a domain theft by a great percentage.
MSE is a free Anti Virus and offers protection, but some of the paid anti virus programs offer greater protection, best to read reviews and choose one of them over MSE.
Also, it will be good if one of the moderators will make the thread sticky after it will be completed so
all shall know the benefits of extra security when it comes to avoiding a domain theft.

I think the best way to avoid having domain stolen is using Registrars that allow 2-factor authentication, and enable it.

Sadly Godaddy does not offer 2 step authentication to Canadians. I wonder if I should transfer my domains somewhere else ? At least .ca domains come with privacy built in.

Bye the way, Hi I am new here.

Just wanted to add that many of the bigger registrars offer 2-factor authentication that will require you to use a code either texted or consistently generated from a mobile app (Name.com). I know GoDaddy, Name.com, Dynadot, NameCheap, and NameSilo all offer this, I believe they are all free as well. That extra 2 or 3 seconds each time you login is worth keeping your names secure!

Hi, I would move them from Godaddy because of that also because of the price among other reasons.
