Hello, i was thinking about getting someone to design a custom template i could use for a camping/howto website. I just wanted to here from you guys how much a job like this would typically cost. Here are some things i would want included:

-dynamic site
-easy to add new pages/articles
-one sidebar
-donate page
-index shows some new entries and welcome message
-users can login to post comments and possible submit own camping tutorials

im sure there might be some more things, but let me know how much a job like this would cost.

p.s. also, i would probably have a logo design too, so price on that too please.

thanks in advance,
jwahl

You would probably want to go with Joomla. It is a CMS system.

Yeah I'd simply use a CMS and get someone to design the template for you.

In which case the cost would be, say, $75 (with the logo design)? Going up to $200 for a *really* nice design?

But I don't see much need to get this all unique and custom coded since all the features you've described is available via free software.

Roughly $400- $600... You'll be the one to make the designs?

$400 is a pretty high price I'd say.

On the grounds that if you are doing this in Joomla, it wouldn't take that long. I only say $400 is a lot because I charge a much lower rate on the Namepros forum. Less than half what I charge others. If we say @ $20 an hour, that would be 20 hours which is too high of a quote if you have done this sort of thing.

Fair comment, I just think its a shame that a lot of talented designers and developers are underpricing themselves, for clients whom don't seem to know any better.
I know there is competition depending on the country (as to what one can afford to live off, therefore charge).
There was no mention of Joomla being requested in the original ad, so I thought it a fair price for someone with the skills to take on the job; they might create a unique CMS for that particular job or maybe they have higher overheads.
No worries, was just curious djdeth ;)
