I just wondered how may daily visits to a website does it take before it's worth considering adverts, etc?

Would you need 200 visits, 2,000, 20,000???

Many thanks for any info.
Ian

Sorry- should have been clearer.
I mean before I consider applying for Adsense (or something similar) for my site.

I have a website at the moment. It's only a few weeks old- gets about 140 visits a day so far. I know this is nothing, but as I say- it's only weeks old.

I'm putting good content on there. 75% of visitors are book marking the site. Getting great feedback by e-mails.

Will I need to be pulling in (say) 1,000 visits a day, or 10,000 visits a day to be seriously considered by Adsense or similar?

Cheers
Ian

You can make money with 100 visitors or not make any with 1000.
All depends where do the come from (SE, forums, toplists, other sites,...)
And how are they targeted. If you have greate response in emails it means that they came to your site and they got it so they are targeted well so I would say you should be making money now.
You could have some affiliate programs related to your site... If you have something free on your site than put there link to related product which has more features and is paid.

you must earn money with 500 visits daily.

The kind of advertiser you choose will depend on your traffic. To start with, you can choose Adsense. they deliver ads even for the sites which get 10 visitors a month :D

Once you really establish the stand, you can go ahead and apply for big people like Clicksor, CPX Interactive, etc. But yes, Adsense is always a good starter.

Any amount of traffic, can earn you money, one of my highest grossing sites, only gets about 100 impressions a day according to adsense, but routinely brings in over 2-3 dollars a day on most days.

So you can earn money from low traffic sites.

You can make money with 100 targeted visitors and nothing with 1000 visitors who have no interest in your site. As long as you keep adding good content you should start making money naturally.

I think you are referring to CPC there. More traffic (whether interested ones or not) will get you good money if you are on a CPM

Could you please briefly summarise what CPC and CPM are and the differences between them?

I am getting 160 unique visitors a day- interesting thing (to me) is that 75% of those are from bookmarks or direct type-in traffic. It's not a generic domain name- I just think that people visit the site and are impressed enough to bookmark and re-visit regularly. With this in mind I am confident I can increase the number of uniques substantially over the next year or two. Thus, at that point I will be looking to make some return on the time invested.

Hey!

Thats pretty good! Do let me know one more thing. When it comes to advertising, you dont look just at the unique visitors but also the number of page views per day. And also let me know the number of impressions you get per day (if you have started advertising). Will be able to explain which would be better with those infos.

When actually selling something on your site : The Quantity of Traffic isn't the most important thing - It's the Quality. If you're trying to sell Real Estate or other high$ Items - It doesn't take but a few leads to make the Domain/Site priceless to you.

For straight PPC/Adsense/YPN type sites .... It all depends on the subject matter. No way to say you need "500" visitors - or "1000" etc ... Financial sites pay more than gaming sites for example , So obviously you would need more visitors to a gaming site to make the same amount of money the Financial site would make.

I agree with the others, quality of your site's content is very important. If the content is good, the visitor might keep coming back and might even recommend the site to friends. That should get you more page impressions as well as unique visitors. I think you need about 10'000 unique visitors for high-paying advertisers to take you seriously. But Adsense won't let you down if you know how to use it well. :)

Many thanks for ALL the input so far guys- much appreciated.

My motto is "content is everything". Please don't take this as an arrogant brag (because I'm just using it as an example), but I have had an e-mail from the vice-president of a multi-million pound global company- saying he was impressed with what he saw on my site- he then added a link to my site onto his own personal blog site. I've had quite a few other e-mails praising my effort so far, including an informal job offer from one of the UK largest CAD Resellers.

Just trying to convey that I am focusing on quality content and filling a niche.

The site doesn't sell anything. It just provides good quality step-by-step articles on how to use a very specialised piece of software (construction industry / design-related) This software is going to be HUGE (on a world-wide scale) over the next 2-5 years. Potentially, it could be in 80% of all Architects' Practices in the next 5 years.

One of the aims behind me developing the site is to build a potential client list so that I may start offering 1-2-1 / class tuition in the UK, next year. People will identify my ability to communicate and generally "know what I'm on about" from the info on my site.

I think the site is doing well so far because I am generally passionate about the subject I have based it on- and I think that comes across in the articles.

Once again, thanks for all feedback in this thread.

Regards,
Ian

Great to hear of your success.

I'd get some type of advertising on your site ASAP as it seems to have serious potential.

Continued good luck to you!

(By the way, traffic quantity isn't everything. I reg'd a domain 2 weeks ago, parked it, and have only had 13 visitors with 2 clicks. These clicks totaled just over $17. If it had been a "developed" site the number of visitors would likely be much higher along with the CTR and the $$$!!! Needless to say it has been moved to the top of my "To be Developed" list...)
