Hi there people,

I have a question about putting website pages/information on the web.

If I had a client, and they've had their website up for a month, and already they needed changes made to their site. How much would it cost to transfer/upload new information onto an FTP server, if there can be a cost? If there is, does $10.00 sound reasonable/fair? :tu:

Thank You,
Maylin

I've never heard of such a thing. Charging for work you've done on the page is one thing... but for merely uploading it to the server? No.

Do you mean updates?
Most people charge very little for simple text updates.

:td: It's good to hear that such a thing shouldn't be charged. Just been looking at other sites to get an idea of differences in price ranges. :tu: I've probably been getting mixed up with updating and uploading evidently. Thank you guys for the information. :td: I knew at some point that such a thing didn't sound right to try and do. :tu: That's why I come here so often, everyone here helps me so much, Thank you. :tu: If anyone could give me more information much will be appreciated.

yer, normally you change a flat fee for changes to be made and in that price includes uploading it. i wouldnt change anythink more that $15 for chnages really because most chnages only takes 15 - 20 mins at max.

Updates ain't nothing to do.....as long as the updates do not require more pages. Personally I will do simple text updates for a customer for free for the first 30 days and then 5 cents a word and 10 cents a picture after the 30 days. If the client potentially can produce enough repeat business (db work, addons, ect...) then I usually will addon an option in the initial proposal for a yearly flat rate for content updates on the pages developed under the scope of work. Many folks prefer that option and plus it keeps me keeping them smiling. Granted I only have a couple os sites because this is something I do in my spare time but its a good ida to consider it for future business.

Well, so it's update :) was shoked to hear people charge for uploads :D

I would try to work on an hourly rate thought. Let me explain: sometimes my clients want very little to be updated. So this can be covered with a small flat rate paid monthly .. But sometimes you have serious updates, that would take many hours. That's why I'd try to think how much I have to update a month. If there are lots of things to be updated, then better be paid on hourly rates

Included in the flat rate for the original design you charge could include 2 monthly free updates. Thereafter a minimum flat hrly rate could be charged for much more complicated and major updates, depending on how long it takes.

Usually you charge a flat rate for a year and give them x amount of updates. You can say for $50 they get unlimited but for $20 only once a month or something. I usually give 1 yr for free with price of design.
