Hi,

Ive got a client who as designed a new backend for his own website. However the source code is all over the place and he would like me to re launch it as fully HTML/CSS compliant.

One page i checked has 83 errors! Overall there are around 8 pages. He also said if there are design or SEO tweaks i could do as well that would be good.

So how much should i charge for this?

Thanks

think you should work out the man-hours. 8 hrs?

well it depends whether you charge at an hourly rate, at a rate per page, or just an overall completion charge.

Really you could charge however much you want, but don't go anywhere lower than $100. If you lower your prices too much things can go bad for both parties. But then again don't make it so high because the client does NOT HAVE TO pay you and if you make the price insane they will be insulted.

I would say, if you have to rewrite the code completely, a good $250-$300 could do it, assuming that each page is differently structured or cannot be copy/pasted in some way.

It depends on the amount of work. I design sites for like $200 - $250 because I am a broke college student and it is a learning experiance. Sometimes people get gready, and then you won't get referrals.

83 errors is impressive compared to HTML soup I've came across in the past. Suggest a price per page quote and work from there, as if you give a set value, then you'll find he takes advantage and you end up spending more time on it than you intended.

The good thing is your client is new to all of this as well......provide him a detailed summary of what your cost incurrer represents and learn him (as they say in construction....lol) the need for properly coded sites (ie functionality, multi browser support, ect....) Reverse Engineering a page can resolve a lot of other problems you and your client may never know existed and should be charged accordingly. Typically a 4 page design will run the customer between 300 and 400 dollars a site and it is the customers responsibility to provide content to the site once the layout is complete. To reverse engineer an 8 page site I doubt I would take it for anything less then 300 if it incorporates all of the following: JavaScript, xHTML, and CSS. However the choice is up to you. Consider using Reverse Engineering as your teminology because it sounds more professional then cleanin up someone else's crud....lol

According to me 200$ are more than enough. If you are interested then I will help you.
