This is a question on how much time it takes you to build a website.

Anyone please reply.

Of course it depends on the design and pages.

But, lets say an average design with approx. 5-8 pages.

How long does it take you to design it.
Not including downloading , uploading pictures, or hosting setup.

Just the design and the code.

Thanks
I would like to hear from ALL.

maybe a couplr of hours or more depending on the quality of the design.

Hard question to answer. It would depend as well on whether you are experienced at design. If you are learning as you go along, then it takes longer obviously than someone who's been doing it for a while. I'm not very fast at it (and always learning-you never stop), so it takes me a day or two to put one together generally depending on how complicated it is. One thing that saves time is having the headers and footers (or other constants) in a single file that is referenced by the other pages. This way no matter how many pages you have or want to add, it's easy to add them to one central location than each individual page. CSS is also helpful in this regard.

The designs always take me a ridiculous amonnt of time. I can never decide if something looks good or not

let's say that you have done websites for a year.

And somebody asks you to make a site for them.
And they don't have any graphics to give you. ( you make the graphics)

with about 8 pages.

What is the normal time. in hours

as we said it depends. If it is a heavily graphical site then maybe more than a plain one. Also depends if you have a fussy client or want something done really complicated that is almost impossible. There are many variables.

Between 1 to 8 hours. There are lots of variables involved:

Do you have to type lots of text on 8 pages?
Do you have to create unique graphics on all pages?
Do you have to incorporate databases?
Do you have to include complicated forms?
Do you have to have an extensive menu system?
Will the site need a lot of interractivity?
Does the client have a large budget to let you create, tweak, edit, redo, and keep messing with it until it's perfect? Or is it a small budget and the client needs a quick, cheap site?

There is no model 'average'. Take each site on it's own needs and go from there.
