How much should I pay?

Hi All, I am currently looking for a programmer to build me a clone of www.spikedhumor.com including a backend.

I have had a quote from someone but I have no idea how much this sort of work usually costs so I thought I would get the opinion of yo guys to make sure Im not paying too much.

I Have received a quote of $2500 is this too much? How much should this work usually cost? and should I go for a particulat language the spiked humor site is in asp and the guy Im currently talking to can do it in php or ruby on rails.

Actully 2500 is quite alot if you see how simple the site look likes with no EXTRA functions whatsoever.
