It's a rarity thing, along with usability/brandability. Look at www.3character.com - NLL.com is worth at least $70.

As for NNNN.coms, number domains are very popular in Asia, especially China, so they do have value (and there are none left, so worth more).

yes. but only the number names have 6, 8, 9, 5 included, they can have value. and 1 is also very popular.
random number names are really bad. some names with 7, or 4, will be even more worse.
I strongly doubt the guy who regged all the left nnnn names is really from China. Only good numbers can have value.
for example, I heard from my friend, 1tong.com was sold for 1 million RMB that is about 125K$.
but if a name has 7 or 4, even you pay me money, I will not accept that.

NNNN.com is not worth much in my eyes, not $50 even.
But LLLL.com will be worth alot soon i think.

That is related with the pronouciation.
4 pronounced 'si' that is the same as "死“　ｗｈｉｃｈ　ｍｅａｎｓ　ｄｅａｄ．
７　pronounced 'qi' that means sad or unhappiness(maybe because of lost money)
These two are taboo in business.
on the other hand, 8 means fatten by money or be reach. so 8 is very popular.
6 means dealing everything easily and smoothly. it is also welcomed in business.
5 means I, or myself.
9 means long time.
so if a name is like 5658.com, it is very good.
But another thing is big business will prefer to use formal character names.
number names seem not so official.

The 3 letter, Numbers and mixtures of both are selling good right now due to rarity

The 4 combo thing has Raise to 36 possibilites to the current 3 combos.

If domain buyers increase Rasie to 36 then 4 combos will go high.
