How much does Domain Age Matter?

I have a .com that according to Archive.org was registered way back in 1998. It has some updates thru 2001 and then nothing. I have had it for a year now but I was just wondering if age makes this domain name more valuable and does having a lull of about 6 years hurt it again?

The name is Se*f***.com. Not a real strong name but it does get some traffic and clicks.

Has anyone sold a Just "ok" name for decent profit just based on age and if so lets get everyone involved. State the domain name and how old it was when you sold it and how much.

Thanks

It still depends on the quality of the domain. Age helps, but it's not the key factor unless the domain does make sense.

You can easily find many 9+ years old .com domain (never dropped) on TDNAM for $12.

Domain age is one factor in Google's algo, the theory is that the older a domain is, the less chance it is being used by a spammer/scammer. Age is also a very small indicator of the domain's quality because most people wouldn't keep paying for a domain year after year unless it has some kind of value.

That being said, it isn't important enough that someone would pay top dollar for SDLFKJSDOGSDG.org just because it was registered in 1996.
